You may have noticed that we were doing ‘No Mow May’ in part of our old orchard paddock next to the shed. It’s been wonderful to see the pollinators buzzing around the dandelions, buttercups, clover and vetch that have bloomed whilst we haven’t cut it.
In the early morning sunshine, it has been buzzing with all different insects and invertebrates. What was also wonderful to see was the Goldfinches- who we hadn’t had visit that part before and collecting seeds off the plants. Amazing!
We also had blue tit’s fledge from our nest box in our garden and the parents would bring back food for them from the shorter grassier areas of the old orchard.
Just goes to show, nature is wonderful and it’s been lovely to see the biodiversity we have here. So much so… I think we will keep a remaining patch of unmowed area from now on. After all, the countryside is somewhat dwindling and they need all the help they can get ###
