Mondays done right!

Absolutely knocking it out the park and working in perfect harmony - well it is only Monday 😬😉😂

Roasted vegetable frittata topped with Cornish Gouda
Turkey, Ham and Leek Pie
Biscoff Cheesecake
Strawberry & white chocolate cheesecake
The “ususal suspects” for quiches and a couple of sponges.

Now onto cookie pies as I’ve not done those for a bit.

‘Twas a lovely stroll to work this morning at sparrow fart, deliciously cool and turning my mind to some long sleeves soon for that daily commute! The good thing is we are back to roasting weather, even me, as a Sunday roast purest has mostly given it a swerve for the summer.

Although my bingo wings have had a serious work out this week with a few tonnes of bechamel - all I could think about was a roast tomorrow with cauliflower cheese!

Now I do get that cauliflower cheese with a roast is a very divisive subject, indeed it’s one all in our house (Ivor says it’s a waste of good cheese - he’s a cauli hater), so for the purposes of democracy I’ll add the doggies in to that vote as they love a bit on their Sunday roast, majority rules 😬.

I’ve knocked up a load of small and large cauliflower cheeses, so if you are all about the Sunday production come and grab one, we have also got some gorgeous veg in too, next job is a bit of cheeky prep for tomorrow so more time to tackle the garden which has run amok this week.

Have a great weekend everyone 😍

I've had my head down and headphones on for the last 10days and our swanky new ready meal freezer has been getting busier and busier, so we thought it was probably time we actually showed you a list of what we make!

All made in our kitchen, with fresh ingredients, fully cooked and ready to defrost and reheat. We make them in 400g single portions and 650g portions for two, with prices from £4.99 - £8.99.

BUT… we want to add a few more 👀

We definitely need a vegetarian option or two, I would like to add a pasta dish that isn’t lasagne, and I am thinking about doing some proper hot puddings too.

So, over to you…

What would you like to see?

🥕 Vegetarian ready meal
🍝 Pasta dish
🍎 Proper pudding

No promises 😂 but if the same suggestions keep coming up, there’s a very good chance they’ll find their way into the kitchen!

I do enjoy making a frittata - the colours are always so vibrant, it’s a hearty alternative if you don’t want to or can’t eat pastry and we pretty much always make it meat free. 24 beautiful local eggs and some gorgeous Somerset or Devon cheese on top. This one is baked and ready for tomorrow.

In other news, our new shiny ready meal freezer is in and on, I also love a white goods delivery so I’m very happy 😆. The Beef in Red wine is now there and ready and I’ve made the Exmoor Lamb (my absolute favourite) today so we are rocking and rolling 😍

Everyone has their thing and mine is sticking labels on jars - STRAIGHT!

There is something ridiculously satisfying about this bit.

Label perfectly square.
No bubbles.
No creases.
Smooth it down.
Polish the jar.
Check it again.
Admire. 😂

I genuinely LOVE doing the labelling, which is probably just as well, because once we start making chutneys and relishes there are rather a lot of them!

And yes, I absolutely notice if one is 2mm wonky.
And no, I cannot just leave it. 😬

Today’s production line: our homemade Tomato, Pepper & Onion Relish — made, jarred, labelled and fussed over right here at The Old Bank Deli. ❤️

I’m back with a plan to get all the ready meals done over the next fortnight - so I’ve started with my mums favourite 😍

🍎 Somerset Pork – back in the freezer soon as I’ve only just made it 😬

One of our most popular homemade ready meals, and a proper taste of Somerset.

Tender diced pork from The Meat Men, slowly cooked with bunched carrots and sweet shallots, local cider, herbs and cream, finished with generous wedges of apples from Old Cleeve Orchard.

Rich, creamy, comforting and absolutely packed with tasty local ingredients – just the sort of dinner you want waiting in the freezer when you can’t be bothered to cook.

Made from scratch in our kitchen, as always. ❤️

Somerset Pork – proper local comfort food.

Traditional Bread Pudding ❤️ fresh out the oven this morning

Bread. Water. Sultanas. Spice.

It sounds ridiculously simple… but there’s a long process between those four ingredients and this 👆

Made the traditional way, with plenty of sultanas and our own secret blend of warming spices, then finished with that lovely crunchy sugar top.

No fancy ingredients. No shortcuts. Just a bit of time and a recipe that proves simple things can be rather delicious.

Proper old-fashioned bread pudding. ❤️

Fresh on the counter today at The Old Bank Deli.

I had a VIP delivery to make today whilst picking up the sourdough from Wivvy this morning, dropping off this beauty to my folks for Leigh’s birthday, a special hamper of goodies for a birthday feast tonight whilst watching the eclipse!

I’m super excited for tonight - not just the eclipse but also the Perseid meteor shower too - we all know my second favourite pastime to staring down at my flowers is staring up at the sky 😬

This is a great selection of goodies we have if you fancy a picnic this evening and this is the last sour dough for a fortnight whilst James at Longstraw has a much needed break. The sour dough is 2 down as one went in the hamper and one got dropped in the road unloading 🤨.

Have a spectacular spectacled evening and be careful to not do a:

Stared at the sun = Trump 😂

I’ve just finished making a batch of fresh strawberry trifles and they are out for sale now.

I haven’t disappeared - I’ve been banished to the kitchen as we are struggling to keep up with demand. It’s like being an IT specialist sent down to the basement, but I’m quite enjoying it. Hoping like all the criminals in jail I can get away with only serving 50% of my sentence 🤷

To continue my time off for good behavior route, we have a yummy frittata - roasted vegetables and Sharpham rustic, Ivor is just crashing out some scones for our cream tea bags (thought maybe we could all watch the eclipse and to stop us staring directly at the sun, be shovelling scones and jam in), and I’m going to sort some cous cous salad and maybe the French bean one as we haven’t had that for while. The ususal hundred weight of scotch eggs were made yesterday and we have about 30 left, then it’s onto quiches.

Oh and big fruit and veg delivery about lunchtime.

Have a great Tuesday!

Hands up who was dancing around in the rain yesterday! Not much of it but still lovely - and the smell was glorious - that’s called petrichor, every days a school day for me 😬

Check out these grapes - they are just the most perfect grapes I have ever had in, sweet juicy and crunchy, yes I did sample a few!

We have loads of gorgeous fruit in at the moment, lots of local stuff too, including our first delivery of discovery apples from Carhampton.

Lots of nectarines and peaches on the 3 for £5 too.
