The original Fruit Farm at Heyford Hills was established in the late 1940s, originally growing goosberries, plums, blackcurrants and apples. See the link to the wonderful article on the Nether Heyford Prattler website for more insight into the history of the farm. https://heyfordprattler.org/2019/07/14/the-story-of-heyford-heyford-hills-fruit-farm/

Dodging the showers today 🌧️

Unfortunately both the tractor and quadbike are currently out of action, which has limited the work we can get done in the orchard today. Farming always keeps us on our toes! 🚜

On the bright side, we’ve got the team from visiting us today, so we’re looking forward to showing them round the orchard 🍎

As you can imagine, we’re blessed to have a variety of birds visiting our Orchard…

Meet the Mistle Thrush 🐦

The UK’s largest thrush, the Mistle Thrush is known for its loud song. These beautiful birds love open countryside, orchards, parks and woodland edges where they can forage for insects, worms and berries.

Sadly, the Mistle Thrush is now on the UK Red List due to serious population declines. Loss of traditional orchards and changes in farming have reduced the habitats they rely on.

Protecting orchards and open green spaces can help give this wonderful bird a future πŸ’š

Have you spotted a Mistle Thrush where you live?
