AND FOR OUR NEXT āMEET THE PRODUCERā POST, WE HAVEā¦
My name is Jane Gray, and my business is Jane Gray Design. I am a textile designer and maker, and I create unique fabric designs and homeware. My products, such as cushions, tea towels, tote bags, and prints, are all based on my own hand-drawn illustrations. I focus on bringing a little bit of the Scottish countryside and nature into the home.
I started my business, Jane Gray Design, in 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. With my university plans for internships put on hold, I wanted to keep my focus on textile design, whilst I was studying at Heriot-Watt University at the time. It began as a small passion project, a "wee business," and since I graduated in 2022, it has grown as I've expanded my product range and fully embraced being a designer and maker.
I love the freedom to be creative and work where I want, often with a sketchbook and a cuppa in the sunshine. My designs are inspired by the nature that surrounds me, and it's a joy to transform those observations into products that can bring comfort into people's homes.
I have a few star products that people love! My "Stop and Smell the Flowers" tote bags are a popular choice for their charming, nature-inspired design and everyday practicality. My unique lampshades are also a favourite, as they act as a statement piece of art that brings a warm glow to any room. Additionally, my Scottish Gin Tea Towels are a huge hit, thanks to their fun, illustrated tribute to some of Scotlandās favourite gins.
I enjoy connecting with people directly and sharing the story behind my work. Markets are a fantastic way to meet customers, other makers, and become part of a local community.
Supporting small businesses means you are investing directly in a person's creative passion and livelihood. It fosters a vibrant local community and ensures that unique, thoughtfully made products continue to be available. When you buy from a small business, you are getting an item made with care and a personal story behind it.
