🌧️🚨 BREAKING NEWS: WE’VE DECIDED TO IGNORE THE WEATHER FORECAST 🚨🌧️

Yes Stephen Ablett… we looked at it. 😂

We didn’t just look at it once either. We’ve stared at it, zoomed in, refreshed it, checked three different apps and probably wasted half the morning trying to work out whether that little cloud means “light shower” or “Biblical flood.” 🤣

And yes… it looks a bit sh*tty. 🌧️😂

BUT…

The field is strong 💪
We’ve had loads of people asking us to give it a go 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️
And then we thought…

SOD IT. WHAT HAVE WE GOT TO LOSE?! 😂

Poynton Show is going ahead.
Southport Air Show is going ahead.
Wythenshawe Park is going ahead.

So surely Holly Lane Car Boot can survive a few drops of water?! 🤣

Worst case scenario, you get a bit wet.

Best case scenario, the forecast is completely wrong — which, let’s be honest, is one of the few things the British weather is consistently brilliant at. 🇬🇧😂

☔️ STALLHOLDERS: If you’ve got a gazebo, bring the bloody thing!
🛍️ No gazebo? Chuck a plastic sheet in the car.
🌧️ Rain starts? Hide under your gazebo and pretend you’re on a survival programme.
☀️ Sun comes out? Act like you knew it would all along. 😂

So we’re GIVING IT A GO!

Because cancelling it every time the forecast shows a cloud is no way to run a British car boot sale.

If we wanted guaranteed sunshine, we’d have opened one in Spain. 🇪🇸😂

BREAKING NEWS! The weather forecast was right! We’ve checked several times because we couldn’t quite believe it ourselves.

It’s absolutely chucking it down here in Styal this morning. The field is wet, the grass is wet, and we’re pretty sure the ducks are considering putting their wellies on.

Every time we cancel Holly Lane Car Boot Sale, the Facebook Weather Society springs into action.

“It’s sunny in my garden!”
“The BBC haven’t got a clue!”
“There’s a blue patch over Knutsford!”
“My bad knee says it’ll brighten up by 10am!”

Well, ladies and gentlemen, today’s award for Accurate Weather Forecasting goes to… the weather forecast! Who’d have thought it?

The truth is, whether you’re the BBC, the Met Office or Dave from Facebook with his £4.99 weather app and a satellite image from 1987, everyone gets it wrong sometimes.

We don’t wake up on a Sunday morning rubbing our hands together thinking, “Let’s upset 500 people and cancel the car boot sale!” Cancelling is always a last resort. We lose out, the sellers lose out and the buyers lose out too.

The decision is made using the best forecasts available at the time. Sometimes we’ll get caught out and it’ll be lovely. Other times, like today, we’ll save hundreds of people from turning up to recreate Glastonbury in a muddy field.

So, to all our resident keyboard weather forecasters – don’t worry, your moment will come. You’ll be right one week, and we’ll happily admit it. That’s weather for you!
