Big changes on our farm this autumn! We’ve changed half the ewe flock to EasyCare Sheep Ireland, starting off with 100 ewe lambs.
These are hair sheep (no wool) so will help reduce labour and chemical usage on the farm (huge reduction in fly protection product usage).
We’ve sourced two fantastic ram lambs from Steven Johnston, a NI easycare breeder. Nearly 60% mated after going in 12 days ago!
These boys have impressive Sheep Ireland figures (5* replacement and terminal indexes) and doing the bulk of the work on the heaviest females so we hopefully have super female lambs next spring as we beginning shifting the whole flock to Easycare. Thanks also to Josh Lamb for an Easycare hogget who is mopping up on lighter ewe lambs.
