Paul Boyd Butchers Birr, trading as John Dwyer Butchers, is an establishment which has held pride of place on the Main Street of Birr for over one hundred years. Cleary (first name unknown) opened the doors in 1909 and was then succeeded Mr. John Dwyer began trading at the premises in 1968 and in 1997 he took on Paul Boyd as his apprentice. l Boyd has been at the coalface of the business since the unfortunate passing of Mr. John Dwyer, and continues to maintain his standards of excellence at present. Paul is also a qualified Chef, having received his qualifications from the Athlone Institute of Technology. Paul is very focused on Healthy Eating and, aware of the growing concern surrounding obesity in Ireland, he promotes home-cooking with locally sourced quality Irish produce. John Dwyer Butchers is proud of the fact that it can boast fully traceable quality meat produce, with all cattle and sheep sourced from local farmers within an 8 mile radius. We source our Vegetables from Milnes, Birr and we source our Jams & Chutneys from local producers. We have featured on the popular RTE television series "At Your Service" where we were delighted to meet with the Brennan Brothers. However, this is not the only thing that makes us famous. Our Sausages, 'John Dwyer Sausages', are very noteworthy and are well loved by many. They have been known to travel all over the world and have been found on plates on all four corners of the globe. All our beef & lamb produce is sourced locally while we also carry a wide variety of fresh vegetables as well as a full range of condiments and sauces. Buying our beef & lamb from local farmers, owning the only abattoir in the area and selling in our own shop allows us to supply our produce with the essential element of trust that all consumers seek when they buy their meat. We provide a 'straight to freezer' service whereby people can bring their animals to us and collect prime cuts ready for freezing. We also offer a HOME DELIVERY SERVICE for the busy working family which is available Monday - Friday.
