Cafe and restaraunt spy Ireland

Cafe and restaraunt spy Ireland I drive all over Dublin and Ireland and visit coffee shops, sandwich shops and restaurants daily. I hate getting ripped- off, poor service or value!

I'm highlighting my experiences. Will of course, for balance, be providing positive experiences!

23 Seats Dundalk. Ordered a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The sandwich came and had bern microwaved. I burnt my thumb when I went to cut it in two. Microwaved lettuce and avocado. Good job I didn't put it in my mouth. Video shows the steam/heat coming off the sandwich. Even the coffee was cooler.

Butlers Chocolate Cafe, Glasthule, Co Dublin
It has only opened in recent weeks. I have been in there three times in as many weeks. Same experience on all three occasions. Painfully slow service from sullen staff. There are three other coffee outlets, all within 50m of this place. Each one is friendlier and deserves your custom. This place is best avoided. Cappuccino €4.30 + one chocolate of your choice.

Avoca just can't help themselves anymore. Last week it was an expensive €12.90 which is just about bearable. One week later €14.90. Absolute rip off.

Bakehouse Bachelor's Walk, Dublin. Ventured in here for a late Breakfast on Sunday morning. Not exactly busy. Food quality is good. But: V slow service. The four young members of staff are very sullen. None of them seemed particularly happy or smiled once during my time on the premises. Service is confusing. Ask for a table, but they don't come to you to take your order. You have to go to the counter. I ordered the Breakfast skillet and a coffee. What came is pictured below. I egg, some fried bits of one potato, perhaps 1 sausage sliced up, but probably only half a sausage, a piece of bacon sliced up and some bits of black pudding. Two slices of toast but no butter. Had to ask for the butter. Hardly great value, even if it did taste quite good. €18. 🙄

This is a good spot, on Mary's Abbey, near Capel Street. Good value, good quality and always friendly.

Avoca ripoff. 08/11/2024 €14 Chicken and Broccoli crumble. 20% chicken content, 70% broccoli and 10% breadcrumbs. Bought one a few weeks ago and it was the same-clearly someone in the bean counter department thinks it's cheaper to put in a load of broccoli instead of chicken. Needs to be renamed: Broccoli and a bit of chicken crumble. Best avoided.

Avoca hand weavers at Rathcool, Co Dublin. Went in for Coffee-an expensive €4.75 for a large Cappuchino. I nearly bought a croissant too until I saw the price. You can buy one in the shop downstairs for €2.50. But walk upstairs to the cafe it becomes €4,75. In future if I'm in here I'll buy one downstairs and simply bring it up.

Been meaning to do this for a very long time. I am so frustrated by poor service and poor value in Dublin and around. Not against anyone making a profit but! So my first of many posts.

Wild & Green Milltown. I frequent this place as it typically ties in with my daily lunch schedule.
Quality is generally good and the loos are typically clean.

However, today just ruined my positive views of this place. The mistake I made was saying I was eating in. Never said it before and in the past when ordering a coffee in a proper cup, you don't get charged extra for drinking it, with or without a sandwich on the premises! So why get charged for eating a sandwich on the premises?. A €7.50 sandwich-expensive to start with suddenly becomes €8.75. Also charged the deposit on the smoothie and bottle of water but drinking on the premises! The bottle never leaves the premises so why get charged the levy. There is no bottle return machine on the premises. & Green Milltown.
