You hijacked a thousand bodies and infiltrated a million minds, you came without a warning, or instructions of any kind.
You shut down our cities and tore our children from their school, you stole away our freedom, and emptied every bar stool,
You forced countries to shut their borders and airports to close their gates,
you held our thoughts hostage, as we anxiously awaited our fate.
You tried to break our Spirits , to divide us from the start, you thought that you could take us our health and our heart.
You believed that you were the strong one, that you would dominate this fight,
what you didn’t know is that here, we stand together to do what is right.
You might have seen us crack, watched us find fault in one another, perhaps you noticed our mistakes, before we finally learnt from each other.
You probably watched us fall but you clearly didn’t look at the map, to the part that reads ‘IRELAND ’.
If you knew where you were docking, where you were setting up your stand, if you knew the people you were fighting; the men and women of this land,
If you knew the spirit we embody and the love we have for our kin,
you wouldn’t have picked this battle, because you’d have known you’d never win.
So scare us with your invisibility, knock on our doors and deliver a fright, creep up on us like the boogie man, who we expect on Halloween night.
Walk up to our homes, and try your best to come inside,
but just remember this - on this soil you won’t make us hide forever.
If Saint Patrick could banish snakes, then we’ll do the same to you,
We’ll remind you of what you really are,
an evil trumped up version of the flu.
You may have had the first move, but we’ve only been dealt our hand-
you will never win the battle, while up against Ireland.
