Experience the exquisite flavours of our dry-aged short ribs, in a slow cooker with this delicious spice mix, cooked in about 5 to 6 hours. The result? Tender, flavourful beef that melts in your mouth. Each bite is packed with the tasty tenderness of the beef and spices – time to show off the art of slow cooking!
Ingredients:
• 1-1.5Kg Beef Short Ribs from your Butchers
• 150ml Beef Stock
• 150ml Red Wine
• 1 tbsp. Hoisin Sauce
• 6 tbsp. Soy Sauce
• 5 tbsp. Honey (local if you have it)
• 1 tsp. Brown Sugar
• 1 Red Chilli, sliced
• 6 cloves Garlic, chopped
• 3cm Fresh Ginger, chopped finely
Seasonings:
• 1 Star Anise
• 1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
• 2 tsp. Chinese 5 Spice
• 1 tsp. Dried Basil
• 1 tsp. Curry Powder
• Salt & Pepper to taste
Method:
Season the ribs and sear the Short Ribs on all sides in a hot pan. Add the ribs and all the other ingredients to the slow cooker (If you don’t have a slow cooker, use a covered casserole dish in the oven at low temp). If possible, turn the beef over a number of times to ensure even cooking. Check the liquid levels, add more beef stock if necessary. Check the beef after 4 hours (as appliances will vary) to ensure it is cooked to your required doneness.
Serve with creamy mashed potatoes or buttery champ, roasted root vegetables, or a rich, velvety gravy — perfect for soaking up every bit of that deep, slow-cooked flavour.
