For the jam makers of Kinsale…
This Saturday, 8am–5pm, Market Gardens is your go-to for fresh Saeville marmalade oranges.

Seville oranges are in season and perfect for bright, bittersweet marmalade. Whether you’re a seasoned preserver or trying your first batch, pop by and stock up.

Quick Marmalade Orange Recipe (Small Batch)You’ll need the below

1 kg marmalade oranges from Market Garden
2 lemons
2 kg sugar
2 litres water

Wash fruit. Slice oranges and lemons in half, squeeze out juice and reserve.
Thinly slice the peels, removing any thick cores.
Put peel, juice, and water into a large pot. Simmer gently for 1½–2 hours until peel is very soft.
Warm the sugar slightly, then add to the pot. Stir until dissolved.
Boil rapidly for 10–20 minutes until setting point is reached.
Pot into sterilised jars. Seal and enjoy.

Tip: For softer, less bitter marmalade, soak the sliced peel overnight in the water before cooking.
