A nice easy calm dry morning and pink streaks in a perly dawn. A bit of fog on the river and two ducks frolicking in the shallows .The train just heading by to Dublin and some people heading off to a gig .
There’s a bit of a chill so out with the jumpers and the cords and maybe a good walk around the bypass and admire the changing leaves .
Head down to Country choice and get some lovely food for the evening. Light a fire ,put in a film and enjoy a glass of natural w**e and a delicious and perfectly ripe raw Camembert .
Call down and maybe buy some good take away soup and soft warm soda cakes. Admire all the raisins and orange peel and inhale the great smells of cinnamon and nutmeg . Think mincemeat and mince pies with buttery pastry . #

An invitation to you all to come to the next weekend here in Nenagh’. This is one of the best weekends in our festival packed Calendar in Nenagh.Readings in great houses ,poetry in Pubs.,chats in cafes and discussion over dinner.
Music in our theatre with Brian Morrissy and Cormac Begley .Book launches and book sales at our independence family book shop. Wines to be drank and friends to meet .
Can I invite you all to an event that I have been asked to chair ?”lobster tails and other stories is a festival event celebrating our great national heritage and tradition of seafood along the western seabord .
Authors and chefs meeting to have a discussion on the great traditions of Irish’s dining for the last two thousand years . The panel consists of well respected writers and scholars Martin Mac and Iomaire and his professional colleague Dorothy Cashman both of whom have produced an iconic and scholarly history of Irish food and its heritage and traditions from earliest times to relative contemporary years.
We will also be joined by Americian seafood expert and multi award winning author Robb Walsh whose next publication is due out in the winter .
Rob will select a special menu of native Irish’s shell fish and sea vegetables along with w**es in conjunction with The Abbey court chefs . The Abbey court are the Sponsoring the event .Tickets are 25 euro and available at the arts centre and at Country Choice . On line bookings can be made at the nemagh Arts centre website .
Do come and enjoy some or all of the events and take a stroll through Nenagh and enjoy the atmosphere

It’s a day for our new delivery of our own brand Fourny ch*****ne when local lad and USA celebrity Chef Stuart O'Keeffe comes home to Kenyon street. Pauline and Michelle pull out all the stops to welcome our friend and all his guests on his recent irish food tour. Stuarts parents Margaret RIP and Francie ran an iconic fashion business on the street for over fifty years.

A grand crisp dawn and a settled morning. An azure sky is watched over by a waning moon.
The last star of the night shines over the Old abbey and an abundance of blackbirds respond to a wild cat hiding in the ivy . My dogs sense the excitement and they too have malign thoughts about the cat and its efforts to scale part of the ancient campanile .We are back open and in full swing for the Christmas season.All the raisins are in and the cherries from Pedrengo in Italy have just arrived .The ginger with the sugar is my all time favourite especially with a thin slice of dark chocolate and a creamy coffee .
Too many nice things to eat and drink but no shortage of friend to join me for a cuppa.
I’m at the stage in my life that I never ever pass an invitation to stop and chat and make time for tea and social. Too many of my friends have gone before us and in the approaching season I will make time for their memory and reflection.
“Slow down you are going too fast you gotta make the moment last” comes to mind . On my walk this morning I met only one or two real people but I said hello in my mind to so many more as I passed Kenyon street and the Abbey.
I welcome my return to the shop and no matter what I see or saw in Europe I always think my own geese are swans. I think my shop looks beautiful and can hold its own with the diminishing range of quirky ,irregular and somewhat unpredictable shops that I seek out on my travels .It’s great to close for a spell no matter how short but it’s always great to open the door again and watch so many friends coming in.We are always very appreciative of the support and patronage of our customers .

We are back open tomorrow and our kitchen is busy with warming Autumn foods . A big tray of saffron Kuri squash and white onion with thyme is just coming out of the oven.
The orange flesh of the squash is sweet and solid and reminds me of the sweet taste of a roast parsing after the first frost.
Slow roast onions are sweet and delicious and a joy to work with . A pot of home made chicken stock is bubbling in the stove and that’s the nectar that binds the soup together . A few spoons of buttery Conconnon is added to the roast vegetables and a puree is made . The stock is added and the big pot is blended . Another job done and the jigsaw of work is taking shape and the menu is being made.

A lovely trip of food ,museums ,music and back to Country Choice for our most vibrant quarter of the year . Autumn is a season dried harvest fruits ,raisins and citrus peel of the highest quality . Cherrys from Italy ,France and Spain. Ginger sliced and sugared to eat with small squares of very dark chocolate and a real espresso. Marrows and squashes and gourds and pumpkins all for roasting with spices for soups and chutneys.
Blackberry and apple jams and new rich purple natural w**es that are not only full of goodness but also just warm your soul and make you feel good.
Call in to Country Choice and watch the best of the season being made daily.
We run the business on the clock of nature and we follow the seasons with natures precision.

Rob. Walshe author and chef and sea food expert will jointly select and prepare a tasting of seafoods from the west with the Abbey court hotel kitchens.
All in all many experts for a lively and entertaining chat on this fascinating subject .Mairtin and Dorathy have co produced one of the best authoritative food history’s ever produced in Ireland
