We love the smell of freshly ground coffee ☕️

Our coffee beans come from local Westport roasters who supply us with three single origin coffees and an incredible Decaf. From the beginning of our partnership they set us up to freshly grind coffee to the customer’s specification, so it’s so nice to get wafts of coffee throughout the day.

Bring a clean, empty container, fill it with beans and let us grind it for you. We have tasting notes on the dispensers, and you can ask the team for suggestions.

At the moment we have the following coffees:
- Colombia La Manuela - Chocolate and lemon
- Papua New Guinea Sigri — Papaya and Mango
- Honduras Organic - Cocoa, pepper, grape
- Decaf Peruvian — Swiss Water Method

We’re not billionaires, and won’t ever be...

We’re a tiny alternative to massive businesses that operate globally, raking in billions of dollars by selling you anything you could possibly imagine but may not need, and doing it in a way that’s not great for their employees, suppliers or the environment.

We know it’s convenient and sometimes very cheap to order from a platform that offers nearly anything in just a few clicks. However, we think they are doing great harm to our local economy and driving things like data centre expansion.

We don’t expect everyone to buy from us, but we always want to highlight that there are plenty of alternatives: loads of brilliant small businesses in Ireland working so hard to grow and produce food in challenging conditions, make incredibly unique products of all kinds and collaborate to keep our communities vibrant.

Thanks for shopping small and local, and especially for refilling! And tag other small businesses you love below, we’re all in this together.

We had an incredibly busy week with some great highlights to keep us going.

It was amazing to start the week on Monday with our solidarity event with Bubbles Not Bombs and we donated €200 to their incredible work to bring joy to kids in conflict areas across the world.

From Tuesday on we were flat out unpacking deliveries and trying to hide them away— four pallets in one day! We are very well stocked at the moment, with more deliveries arriving all the time.

We were delighted to supply the amazing team at Vincents Ballina with a big range of reusable period pads and wet bags that they will distribute free of charge to people who need them.

It’s autumn, so we’ve put out our kids costume swap for Halloween again. Bring any kids costumes you might have to share, but you don’t have to have something to swap to take a costume.

Finally we have had busy days packing online orders and helping customers refill, so we always want to say a big thank you to everyone who shops with us!

All children need to play ✨

September 21 is the International Day of Peace, and the amazing organisation Bubbles Not Bombs will be making bubbles with children in war zones, and we will be making bubbles in solidarity.

We will provide Eco Ethical Giant Bubble Toys bubble mix and lots of bubble making wands for big and small bubbles, so we are inviting the community to join us. It is free to participate, but we will be taking donations to Gaza Go Bragh ❤️ (Gaza Forever) for their projects supporting kids in North Gaza

From the Bubbles not Bombs campaign:

Children in Sudan, in Yemen, in Congo, in Myanmar, in Lebanon, in Palestine and especially in Gaza have been living through unimaginable horrors. Things no one, ever, should have to experience.

ALL children need to play. All children deserve to live in a world free of fear, of harm, of famine, of displacement. Until that day, we are determined to bring them bubbles, simple toys of soap and water, and by doing this, we will share their stories with you.

Because EVERY child matters.

Solidarity in action 🇵🇸

We want to thank everyone who has continued to support our Goods for Gaza iniative, in which we sell amazing Palestinian grown foods from Zaytoun and other goods donated by us and some of our suppliers like We Make Good | Ireland and Tara Ní Greacháin and customers like Carolyn Mitchell

This year, we have been donating directly to one family of six— including a baby born in 2026– as they live through serious health challenges and limited access to food, plus the continued psychological effects of living under occupation without schools, work or other normal life. We are in touch with them several times a week to do what we can to encourage and support them, and they know that we have a community helping us provide for them.

The ongoing human suffering and environmental catastrophe are shameful, and we feel incapable of expressing our sorrow and anger that it has not been stopped. This is not the world we want or deserve.

Making buying local veg easier 🥕🥦🥔🍅🧄

For years we’ve loved ordering from Glasrai, and we want to remind anyone new, or who didn’t know about it, that they deliver customer orders to us every Thursday. The goal is to get the money straight into the hands of the farmers, and to make it convenient to get your veg weekly.

Now more than ever our food security and health depend on us knowing and supporting growers as much as we can.

How it works:
- Choose your selection of vegetables, fruit and more online from glasrai.ie before 11 pm on Tuesdays.
- At checkout, it will ask for your preferred delivery location, so choose ‘Westport PAX Thursday 2:30 - 5pm’.
- Pay Glasrai directly by card.
- On Thursdays, collect your order anytime from 2:30 pm. We’re open until 6 pm, and you can also come the following day; we will hold your veg for you.
- Make delicious meals!

Now is a great time to start, as there is still summer veg direct from the farm, like incredible tomatoes, French beans, broccoli, Romanesco, courgettes, cucumbers, garlic, salad leaves, carrots, potatoes and more.

100% plastic free bottles for all ages

We love the Pura range of stainless steel bottles because they have no plastic components, and they are designed to grow with your child from for years. We’ve also gotten great feedback from parents of children with additional needs, who appreciate the safe and durable design.

The bottles make it easy to change out lids over time, from teats at birth to toddler sipper kids, and then on to flexible straws or sports lids or straws. All are made with medical grade silicone, and we stock the range of lids and accessories like bottle bumpers.

For older kids and adults, we have insulated 475 ml and 650 ml bottles, and those lids can also be replaced. They come with a handy loop on the silicone sleeve for easy carrying.

And, we have the all silicone sipper cup and snack cup range for the early independence.

Swapping before shopping 💚

It’s Secondhand September, and we love helping good items find loving second (or third or fourth) homes so they don’t end up as waste.

We’re hosting another Swap Shop for the community on Wednesday, 16 September from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the shop. This time we are swapping adult clothes, shoes and accessories, ideally for the autumn and winter season.

How it works:
- Bring up to 10 items of clothing, shoes or accessories for adults, accessories in good to excellent condition.
- Have a look at the other goods and see what you like.
- You don’t have to bring anything to take something, as we want everything to find a good home.
- Anything left over will be donated to local charity shops or used for upcycling.

Some of McKinley‘s favourites ✨

This is the shop we want to shop in and we’ve done our best to fill it with great producs, so it can be hard to pin down our favourites, but here are some things McKinley can recommend:

- juice, very high in polyphenols and pressed from organic Aronia berries grown in Cork

- Qwetch insulated stainless steel flask for hot drinks on the go, especially herbal tea or cacao

-Organic sour cherries, for people who don’t love raisins or sultanas, or want a tangy option for granola, sourdough and baked goods add-ins or a quick snack mix with pecans, brazil nuts and maybe some dark chocolate chips

- Organic almond butter as a topping for sourdough, stirred into porridge or blended into a smoothie— we make it fresh in the shop

- nourishing soap range— we love the Carrot soap, and Castile or Chamomile Calendula or Pure Calendula for people of all ages or with sensitivities

Irish pea hummus 🌱

We think it’s amazing to be able to use local peas to make an Irish version of hummus, especially since we have the incredible organic Marrowfat peas.

How we make hummus, but it’s totally adaptable:
- soak the peas in a good amount of water— we like to add a strip of Atlantic Kombu to help tenderise them

- Drain, rinse and cook the peas with plenty of water, some salt and the Kombu if using (you’ll get extra nutrition from the seaweed!)

- Cool the peas and then blitz them in a food processor with a bit of the cooking water, fresh Irish garlic and some tahini. Traditional hummus uses lemon juice, but sometimes we substitute apple c***r vinegar.

- Flavour variations: blitz in smoked paprika and some chilli flakes for a spicier version; roasted beetroot or carrots for colourful, earthy versions (great for kids); add ice cubes to get a super creamy consistency.

- To finish, drizzle with good organic olive oil and Za‘tar and enjoy with sourdough, fresh chopped vegetables or crackers. It’s great mixed into salads or grain bowls or in wraps, or as a base for roasted vegetables.
