Meet Arun Udupa. A Professor by profession, a singer by hobby, a farmer by intrest, and an active member of social groups.
More than anything he is an inspiration to all those who love to be successful in their career and yet stay very much connected to their home and nature!

He returned to his home at Billalkoppa after he completed MPhil in Applied Botany.
He served as principal in P.U Government colleges in Kudremukha, Kalasa and Balehole and is now working as Principal of Sringeri Government P.U college.
He is an active member of JCI and Lions Club and he occasionally conducts field trips and treks to his students. Yet he finds time and cultivates his ancestral agriculture land.

Meet Sujatha
One might call her a dedicated house wife but instead we prefer to call her a successful business woman.
Being a house wife is a full time job yet she manages to keep her interests alive. She spends her time in taking care of cattles and buffalos and sells Ghee and milk products around her locality. Not just that she loves making papad, chips and especially jackfruit chips in large quantities and sell it to her customers.
Being in an agricultural family she of course dedicates some of her time in their plantations too.
As she is born and bought up in the interior village of Malnad, her house is always filled with relatives and guests but even in her busy schedule she finds her time to take care of her family and her interests.
A perfect work life balance right?

Pickles are one of the ancient food item and are most common in Indian cuisine.
It is mostly consumed for its addictive taste but has strong useful impacts on our body.
Traditionally pickles are consumed at the end of the meal because the combination is supposed to clear the gut and a perfect pickle make your mouth watery.

For our generation, farming and agriculture falls under risky or unsafe career. But what if it's not risky any more? It would be a paradise right?

But how to keep the money flow intact in villages? That's where we, our generation play a major role. When we put in effort to create different, stable, good income sources to farmers, we can be the next farmers☺

So in Essence of Maland our only focus is to strengthen the community, the community of farmers and small scale business women by creating a broad customer base through internet, social media or many such modern methods.

Meet Savitramma
Always knows as ಬಳೆಗಾರತಿ. Selling bangles and few fancy items is her profession, which is passed on to her in the family.
She carries a load full of items and visit homes during festival seasons. 🌟🤩
She has raised her family with this business and now she has a car too!
But before that, she used to travel in buses and then walk miles together with a huge luggage in her hand and on top of her head and make an earning.
Our childhood fancy bangles or hairbands or colorful bindi tubes were always bought from her. She covers most of the towns and villages near by and of course, she knows each one in the house by face and name 💚

Auto Prakash
One of the most friendly and people favorite person in town.
He is always a phone call away, even if the destination is remote he is there to help. Not just him, but every auto drivers in Malnad region have to travel a long route in order to reach people back to their home from towns and yes! the roads are not easy. One rainy season is enough to spoil the roads!
Yet he is always there with a smile😃
A ride in his auto is nothing but a good memorable conversation.

Meet Radha
She is born and raised in a small village in Malnad. Though she could not have a proper formal education, she always aspired to be an independent woman.
Her biggest dreams were to be able to provide for her two sons and at the end be able to take care of herself!
And yes! she has almost made it happen.
She sacrificed and worked hard for her sons education and now both of them finished their studies and are successfully employed in banglore. The struggle, stress and worries that she had to face made her nothing but strong.
She is much of a workaholic, who enjoys working rather than a TV show and her favorite time pass is keeping a place clean!

IPS officer and an ex- DySP! Mithun, at the age of 28 is the new inspiration. He is based out of Bandigadi, a small village in Chikkamagluru. He completed his primary & High School from Koppa and his degree in B.E.(E&C) from PESIT, Bangalore. After being an engineer his actual learning started once he decided to pursue IAS. Along with his studies he worked as a Commercial Tax Inspector for 2 and a half years and also taught IAS and KAS aspirants in his free time. He cleared KAS exams and completed his training and got appointed as a DySP, KSPS. 🌟 And Meanwhile he also cleared UPSC exams in 2019 with all India ranking of 359!!🌟🌟 He is now an allotted IPS (Indian Police Service) of Karnataka Cadre. Savita Akka is the best example for hardwork, persistence and self confidence. She does not hold degrees to obtain a job but she believed she can do something on her own. Her father in law suggested a plan back in 2004 and from there she took it on her own and built her business with lots of effort and hard work. "Matrushree Products" is a home based business which caters all the homemade products like variety of Pickles, chips, Savories, papad and many such items to the customers. In the initial years, she sold the products through contacts which was limited. Later she started exhibiting the products in events and stalls and made her own customer base. A total of 21 stalls till date and it is a big deal for someone coming from a village with very little experience and limited support. And she now sells throughout India!! Her secret is self belief and continuous effort which is keeping this business a success.
