Known as “karpaha vriksham” or the celestial tree in Tamil tradition, every part of this magnificent plant has been utilized for food, medicine, and daily necessities.
References to palm products appear in Sangam literature dating back over 2,000 years, highlighting their central role in Tamil culinary and medicinal traditions. Ancient texts like “Tholkappiyam” mention palm products as offerings during important ceremonies, underscoring their cultural significance.
Palmyra sprouts (panaikilangu) contain impressive amounts of vitamin B complex, particularly B1, B2, and niacin, supporting nervous system health and energy metabolism. The tender shoots also provide dietary fiber that aids digestion and promotes gut health.
