Akki Shavige (Rice String Hoppers) and Chicken Curry - a perfect pairing! A traditional Gowdru Mane Oota (cuisine/food found in households of the Gowda community of Karnataka). Shavige is typically prepared as a special dish when guests are invited home. People in the household would look forward to savor this tasty combo, courtesy of the guests 😀. This Chicken Curry recipe is extra special because it was a part of our childhood at our maternal grandmothers house, carefully prepared by the family cook - Palaniswamy. As an ode to his culinary contributions, we hope you enjoy our recreation of Palaniswamy’s Green Chicken Curry.

It’s Malnad week, finally!

Malenadu or Malnad region is known for its picturesque landscapes, abundant coffee plantations, and distinct cuisine. This unsung cuisine of Karnataka is prepared with seasonal produce, foraged local ingredients, meats, and robust spices.

Chikmagalureans are known meat lovers, and one of their most relished dish is the Handi Mamsa (pork meat). The Malnad Style Pork Curry from Tegos is a favourite of our expert in regional cuisine, . She draws inspiration for this dish from her father, Ravi Bilagali, a fourth generation coffee planter, who has over the decades perfected the recipe, which his guests fall in love with every time.

We hope that our patrons in the Nilgiris will relish this dish as much as Ravi’s guests in Chikmagalur! 🙂❤️
