This guidance is outlined in this year’s IPM (Integrated Pest Management) guide, approved by a panel of experts from SKUAST-K and the Department of Horticulture. In dry weather, hold off on spraying until majority of buds reach the pink stage, so that you time your fungicide application as close to flowering to avoid treating in early bloom in case of rains in early bloom. Our scab outbreaks often stem from mismanagement during the pink bud stage. Pink bud stage can extend up to even more than 10 days if temperatures drop, and the bloom period—from flowering to 60% petal fall—may stretch to 20 days under cooler conditions. Now, think, if someone sprays at early pink bud stage and then temperature goes down.For this reason, the IPM guide recommends waiting in dry weather till full pink &, spraying fungicde if severe rains occur in bloom. By the way, I haven’t singled out any specific fungicide brand to avoid at pink bud.
