We have conscious that we did not post here for many years but we want to redeem and start giving more news in the future.

First, the project is still well alive and going. In the last three years we bought a small farm, acquired the material for starting production and were well in the process of getting the authorizations for starting producing and selling. The future was looking bright for the project and our family and we were going to start selling in one or two years.

However, we have recently experienced a dramatic set back on a personal level, which obliged us to move all a sudden from where we lived and will make us probably leave Iceland. Consequently, we need to found another production facility which will seriously delay putting our product on the international market.

We will update you in some months when we know where we will settle.

Good day and happy New Year!

We hope you do not mind too much that we haven't given news for a while, but we preferred to wait until things were settled in a meaningful way.

Now we are finally well on track for delivering the first official production. We hoped we could deliver sometime before Christmas, but this proved impossible since we only received the jars in the middle of December (despite ordering early October). We received our stickers and algae powder yesterday.

As for the production, we had an offer early December to have access to an official food innovation center in Sólheimar, allowing us to get much earlier to market. This has been slightly uncertain since they just started this service, but we do have a green light to start with them as early as next week.

Meanwhile we have opened an organic/gourmet/artisan shop in Selfoss (South of Iceland), to have a direct way to introduce our salt, to make our living and to have something to do.

Hi everybody,

There are still a few issues delaying the establishment of our factory.

1. We are still resolving a setback we had in our financing.
2. The regulators have not made up their minds about the nature of our product and what standards we need to meet.
3. Marie is approaching her 43rd week of pregnancy, so the focus has been on spending time with her parents who came from France, and other family members, while preparing for a home-birth.

We will continue as planned, as soon as possible and we will do what our resources permit to advance this project.

Today we celebrate the National Day of Iceland!

This day in 1944, Iceland declared independence from Denmark.
Crowdfunding is a way to declare independence from the world financial system. By raising 3626€ for our project, you have enabled us to construct the first algae burning facility since the Icelandic middle ages. We will post photos of the work as soon as we are in Svefneyjar, establishing the facility.

We will face predictable difficulties in getting a production permit, in this bureaucratic system. Nothing will ever stop us from delivering your salt, and eventually revolutionizing the way people look at disease, salt and health.

Salt with a positive heart-print!

This is the final countdown.

In 25 hours, we will either continue revolutionizing the salt industry, or disappoint everyone who believed in us so far.
Right now, 36 forward thinkers await the first modern production of 100% ash, viking salt. Many others believe in the project of creating a healthy option for salt, and we wish we will satisfy them.

We call it „Viking Silver - Super Salt“, it is made with a forgotten method of burning kelp, which leaves only a salty taste. Today it is groundbreaking, as it's only 8.8% Sodium (vs. 39% in other salt) but 20.6% Potassium (vs. 0.3% in other salt). The benefit is that Sodium in salt elevates blood pressure, while Potassium can lower it. Modern diet mis-balances these minerals (and others); 90% overuse sodium and 98% in the US are potassium deficient.

Many other minerals are abundant in our ash-salt. Most notable is Iodine, because kelp is simply the best source of this element; vital to all secretory tissues. At least 2.000.000.000 people are deficient in Iodine. This deficiency is the most common cause of mental and physical retardation, yet easily preventable. Iodine can sterilize water, prevent radiation sickness and reverse the early stages of breast cancer.

Poisonous table salt

Looking at the label of table salt (fine rock or sea salt), you may have noticed ingredients like Silicon Dioxide and Sodium Hexacyanoferrate. The first is actually finely ground quartz sand, the main ingredient in glass. The second is also known as E535, it is used for developing films and in the oil industry. Collectively they are known as anti-caking agents and their purpose is to keep salt free-flowing, but they are harmful to the body.
The fine quartz dust can cause auto-immune response if it gets inside the bloodstream or into the lungs, since it can not dissolve and irritates the body.
Hexacyanoferrate is a complex ion formed by the reaction of Hydrogen Cyanide and Iron. Yes, there is probably Cyanide in your salt shaker...Not a lot, and the complex is quite stable. On the other hand, Cyanide is a very toxic substance, and the complex certainly breaks down with time.
While the long-term effects of these (and other) chemicals are unclear, we should at least try to hinder our children from coming in contact with them.
Our Viking Silver - Super Salt, is free flowing without any additives, and we will never use poisonous chemicals in our produce.

Unconventional flatbread.

As the name indicates, there is no need to follow the recipe exactly. They go better in the mouth and the stomach than the ones in the store. Rye is wholesome and rich in fiber and there is no need of leavening agents to make this bread.

200g rye meal
100g rye meal, oatmeal or wholewheat
1/2 tsp Viking Silver salt
50mL extra virgin olive oil or hot water
150mL hot Ricotta whey or hot water

Knead, flatten and fry on a pan (some people like to use a little bit of oil when frying them) :).

Ricotta!

The selection of low salt cheese is quite limited these days, and the ones available are not so great. Making ricotta in your kitchen takes only a few minutes, and the result is a very nice, fresh and versatile cheese.

1L whole milk
3 tbsp apple vinegar or lemon juice
1 tsp Viking Silver salt
Seasoning of choice

Heat the milk on a medium setting until it starts fuming visibly, but not boiling. Add the salt, seasoning and acid. Now, when the mixture is stirred, the milk starts coagulating and forming cheese. The last step is to strain the cheese through a sieve or a kitchen cloth. Keep the remaining fluid (whey), it is great to use instead of water when baking.
