The Sicilian “cannolo” is, alongside the “arancino”, a culinary symbol of the island. Made from a fried crumbly dough and filled with ricotta cheese, it has many variations depending on where it is produced. It can be made with a lot of sugar and coloured with candied fruit, as used in the Palermo area, or enriched with the flavor of pistachio in the Etna area.
The Sicilians usually eat “cannoli” at the end of a meal with coffee, or sometimes as a special treat for breakfast.
Whenever you eat it, the “cannolo” will remain one of the sweetest memories of your trip.

At the beginning of the summer, the country sides between Trapani and Paceco, along the western Sicily, are tinged with yellow. It is the color of some special melons, melons of Paceco, or winter melons, because you can find them far beyond the fall season.
Medium in size, these melons are pretty tough, intense yellow, rich in water, potassium and vitamins A and C ,with yellow seeds.
This melons contains calcium, phosphorus and iron. This was the favorite food of peasants. During the hot summers in Sicily and while on holiday, a break with a base of yellow melon of Paceco is refreshing .

We were inspired by this when creating our Sicilian Flavoured Capers with white balsamic vinegar, mint and a little garlic making them a delicious addition to many dishes.

Piccola Cucina Shop

We use local sicilian chili because it is less spicy than chili grown in southern Italy (Calabria). Use it for seasoning and to add a pinch of spice to any dish. Due to a special manufacturing procedure it maintains its beautiful red colour.

Use:

As it is not too spicy our chili spread can be used on bruschetta, as dip sauce, to spice up pasta sauces (all’arrabiata), stews, meat and… pizza!

INGREDIENTS:
Chili (79%)
Extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt

The scent of Sicily lives in shades of the orange Mandarinetto, a variety of Sicilian limoncello, but made with citrus scented tangerines of the island gardens.
Although the technique of preparation is the same, the mandarinetto differs from the limoncello because of the use of cinnamon in its production phase, its origin in the Arabic tradition which brought in Sicily the use of spices.
Unlike the limoncello, the mandarinetto is characterized by a more bitter taste, muffled by the sweet cinnamon.
Ancient Sicilian tradition has it that the mandarinetto should be offered to the boyfriend who, along with the families, comes to ask for the hand of the bride.
