📢 A productive start to 2026 for Kenya's organic farming community!

The Kenya National PGS Committee successfully held its 1st Committee Meeting of the year on 31st March 2026 at Maxland Hotel.

The committee covered key agenda items, including:
✅ Review of the PGS Scoring Tool
✅ Assessment of recently reviewed PGS Groups across the country
✅ Planning for the National PGS Workshop 2026

It was a milestone session that reaffirmed our collective commitment to strengthening Participatory Guarantee Systems in Kenya, keeping farmers, consumers, and assessors aligned around the highest organic standards.

We look forward to sharing more updates as we move forward with this year's activities.

Spotlight on Gatanga Organic Farmers Market (GOFAM) 🌿

Gatanga Organic Farmers Market (GOFAM) is one of the active Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) groups in Murang’a County, based in Mugumo-ini Ward. Formed in 2019 and registered as a Self-Help Group (SHG), GOFAM brings together 27 active members (16 women and 11 men, including youth) committed to organic farming.

The group specializes in herb production including rosemary, lemongrass, hibiscus, cloves, and mint alongside fruits, vegetables, and tubers. They are also advancing into value addition, with exciting products such as rosemary tea and frankincense hydrosol.

GOFAM supplies products to farmers’ markets and outlets including Fine Aromas and Sylvia’s Basket, among others. The group has received training on organic production, PGS, market linkages, and networking through the Kenya Organic Agriculture Network (KOAN).

Baseline Survey Preparations Underway

Wycliff is in attendance at the Training of Enumerators for the Baseline Survey, organized by the project consultant under the KA4S Agroecology Project, taking place at Famous Café, Murang’a Town.

The training is equipping enumerators with the skills and tools needed to collect high-quality data that will inform evidence-based planning, monitoring, and evaluation of agroecology interventions.

Speaking after a session with young learners at Jofad Montessori Kindergarten and Elementary School, he emphasized that farmers have realized that agriculture practices without synthetic chemicals is the way forward and he made a clarion call to embrace traditional, sustainable practices that protect our soil, ensure food security, and promote healthy communities. Young people, supported by parents and elders, are leading this call inspiring a future where Kenya’s children understand responsible farming and the value of safe, organic food.

Yesterday, we successfully held the 3rd National PGS Workshop at Sportsview Hotel, Kasarani!

PGS group representatives, CSOs, and organic champions came together to share experiences, lessons, and strategies to strengthen Kenya’s organic movement.

Highlights included:
📌 Presentations on organic market opportunities, building ideal PGS structures, and the role of the National PGS Committee.
📌 A World Café session on credibility, partnerships, stakeholder engagement & fundraising.
📌 Screening of the Successful PGS Group video.

PGS continues to grow as a trusted farmer-led certification approach, connecting producers, consumers, and markets with safe and sustainable food.
