To Human Rights Organizations, LSK, and Civil Society Advocates,
We acknowledge and respect your role in protecting the rights of citizens, especially during protests. However, we urge you to exercise fairness in your assessments and advocacy.
In the streets, officers are faced with chaotic, emotionally charged situations often provoked, insulted, and even physically assaulted by demonstrators. Yet, these same officers are expected to stay calm, restrained, and perfect. They are expected to take it all in silence even when protesters go as far as poking fingers into their faces, hurling insults, or daring them into confrontation.
Let us be honest a police officer is a human being. One who may be tired, hungry, mentally strained, or emotionally stretched from long deployments or personal burdens. In such moments, it takes immense discipline to keep calm. But even then, continued provocation can trigger unintended, irreversible consequences.
You who champion rights ask yourself: should a civilian provoke an armed officer to a point of snap judgment? Is it not your duty too, to speak against this dangerous behavior?
We do not ask for immunity we ask for balance. Speak for the protester, yes, but also speak for the officer who is pushed to the edge while trying to do their duty. If you only see the shield and not the person holding it, then you are part of the injustice you claim to fight.
Let us promote responsible protest, lawful policing, and mutual respect. Because if that thin line snaps, it won’t just be a police or civilian issue it will be a national tragedy.
