Bio Foods Pvt Ltd works exclusively with Organic and Fairtrade certified small & medium producers groups; Small Organic Farmer Association (SOFA) & Marginalized Organic Producer Association (MOPA). SOFA is the brain child of our visionary leader Dr Sarath Ranaweera, and MOPA was build with the experiences gained while treading on the same path. At the initial stages Bio Foods Pvt Ltd provided
all necessary support related to Organic & Fairtrade farming for SOFA, until such time they gained total independence. Similar mechanism is being followed with regard to MOPA, till the day they being made independent. Organically grown, chemical free raw materials are purchased from these producer groups who are certified under various international certifying bodies in order to cater to the global food market, as well as under the strict internal control systems and quality parameters set by Bio Foods Pvt Ltd. Bio Foods Pvt Ltd is engaged in processing and exporting Organic and Fairtrade Green Teas, Black Teas, Flavored Teas, Spices, Coconut Milk , Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Desiccated Coconut, Traditional Rice and other post-harvest food items in its own processing units. Green tea is manufactured at James Valley Organic Tea Factory at Doluwa while black tea is processed at Avonlea Hill Organic Tea Factory at Diyathalawa in the world famous Uva High Grown tea region. Kinglynn Estate in Ohiya is where the specialty tea project of Bio Foods Pvt Ltd is situated and “Heavenly Special” and “Heaven Scent” are the premium products from this location. Well equipped processing units are established to process Organic spices, herbs and other products at Doluwa, Naula, and Pannampitiya. Bio Foods Pvt Ltd is the World's First Fairtrade Registered Processor & Exporter for Spices. State of the art processing facility is in operation for Coconut and fruit products in Makandura. Bio Foods Pvt Ltd exports processed products in the forms of bulk and consumer packs to Europe, North America, Japan, Australia and all other developed countries, under different certifications such as Organic, FLO, Bio Suisse, Naturland, NOP – USDA, JAS, Demeter, EU, ISO 22000:2005, HACCP and CQC. Bio foods Pvt Ltd plays a major role in the Organic post harvested food industry as a processor and exporter of quality products while fulfilling the needs of buying partners with a reasonably priced high quality products. 'Jameslea' and MÁ are company own brands used in product promotion. As a devoted Fairtrade Company Bio Foods Pvt Ltd assures the sustainability of farmer community in many aspects. Minimum prices for all raw materiel’s purchased is one of the criteria which guarantees the income sustainability of the farmers in the event of adverse market prices. Also a definite percentage from the export volume is allocated to a community development fund for the purpose of uplifting the living and social standards of small & medium farmers and employees. Farmer organization receive a substantial Fairtrade premium directly from the European consumers for their produces exported via Bio Foods Pvt Ltd. Further more a transparent purchasing & documentation is practiced in order to avoid discrimination issues for the farmers and all other stake holders involved. Since 1997 Bio Foods Pvt Ltd was certified for following the Organic farming practices, a system which promotes the socially just, economically viable, environmentally friendly and a culturally sensitive atmosphere. In 2001 Bio Foods Pvt Ltd obtained the status of Fairtrade certified processor and exporter, enabling them to divert benefits from the system directly to the farmer families. Bio Foods Pvt Ltd takes all possible measures to stay in line with local and international environmental regulations. Most of the environmental safety aspects set by Central Environmental Authority in Sri Lanka and other international organizations are automatically covered within the Organic and Fairtrade certification.
