🇵🇹 Complete Process of Portugal D1 Visa (From Start to Finish)
✍️ Step 1: Get a Job Offer from a Portuguese Company
First, you must obtain a job offer from a company in Portugal. The company will issue you an Employment Contract or Job Offer Letter stating your job title, salary, duration, and the company’s full details (name and address).
⚠️ The company must be officially registered in Portugal. Be careful—some fake job offers exist and are easily detected during the visa process.
⸻
✍️ Step 2: Prepare Your Documents
This is where most people lose time, so prepare the following documents carefully:
▶️ Passport (valid for more than 6 months)
▶️ Police Clearance Certificate (issued from Bangladesh, translated into English or Portuguese)
▶️ Medical/Travel Insurance
▶️ Proof of Accommodation (rental agreement, invitation letter, or hotel booking)
▶️ Employment Contract
▶️ Passport-size photos (2 copies)
▶️ Educational Certificates
▶️ Flight booking (if required)
It’s highly recommended to notarize, apostille, and translate all your documents.
⸻
✍️ Step 3: Apply for an Indian Visa (for Biometrics Submission)
Having an Indian visa increases your chances of getting the Portuguese visa by about 80%. You will need a medical or double-entry Indian visa. Once you get an appointment at the Portuguese Embassy, you will need to travel to India for the biometric submission.
Currently, obtaining an Indian visa costs 30,000–110,000 BDT, depending on how you apply.
In addition, you’ll need around 50,000 BDT more for airfare and 3–7 days of accommodation and expenses.
During your appointment, you will submit biometrics (fingerprints + photo) and pay the visa fee (approximately €1500). You’ll receive a receipt or tracking number to check your visa status online.
⸻
⏳ Step 4: Visa Processing Time (Under Review)
At this stage, the authorities will verify your employment contract, background, and document authenticity.
This process usually takes 30 to 90 days. In some cases, it may take longer if additional verification is required.
If it exceeds 90 days without updates, it generally means the visa will likely be refused.
⸻
✅ Step 5: Visa Approval (Decision Stage)
If everything is correct, your visa will be approved.
Your passport will then be submitted—either directly or through an agent (with Power of Attorney)—to the Portuguese Embassy for the visa sticker.
The Portugal D1 visa is usually valid for 4 months (120 days).
⸻
✈️ Step 6: After Visa Approval (Manpower Processing)
Once the visa sticker is issued, you’ll need to complete manpower formalities in Bangladesh.
Then, book your flight according to your schedule.
Remember: you must enter Portugal within 120 days of visa issuance.
⸻
🏠 Step 7: Arrival in Portugal
After arriving in Portugal, you must apply for a Residence Permit within 4 months.
This is done at the AIMA Office (formerly SEF).
You will need to provide:
♦️ Copy of your visa
♦️ Employment contract
♦️ Proof of accommodation
♦️ Tax number (NIF)
♦️ Biometrics
After a few weeks, you’ll receive your Residence Card (biometric ID).
⸻
💼 Step 8: Start Working
Once you receive your Residence Card, you can legally start working in Portugal.
You will now be a fully legal worker in the country.
💰 In total, the entire process—including visa, travel, and all related expenses—may cost approximately 22–24 lakh BDT.
