Abraham, was 75 years old when he was ordered by God to leave his father's land and migrate to the land of Canaan some time between 2000 BC - 1700 BC.
It is written that God through the covenant, promised him and his descendants this land forever which ofcourse already had occupants; canaanites and other groups.
This Land of Canaan today is where you find Israel/Palestine, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan ndi mbali ina ya Syria ndi Lebanon.

Eventually, Hagar gave birth to a boy and he was named Ishmael.
But God still assured Abraham that he will have his own son with Sarah who shall inherit the land of Canaan.
14 years later, Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to Isaac who initially inherited the land of Canaan.
It is interesting to note that apparently God had affirmed that both Isaac and Ishmael will father great nations.
But on Ishmael, God was quite specific when he told Hagar that her son will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers. (Gen 16:12).
Later, due to the tension that grew in Abraham's house, Hagar and Ishmael were sent away and literature has it that they settled in Mecca.
Ishmael is recognized as the father of all arabs and an ancestor of several northern prominent Arab tribes and the forefather of Adnan, the ancestor of Muhammad.
Many muslims actually believe that it was Ishmael who was about to be sacrificed to God not Isaac as the Bible puts it.
