Mark and his family are loyal Zero Waste Store customers who share our commitment to conscious living.

We shared a conversation with him in the store, and he reminded us of the importance we bring to our friends, customers, and community.

May he inspire you in the same way this World Environment Day. ♻️

This year’s World Environment Day theme encourages us to reflect on how we, as people and communities, can begin building futures that are more conscious and connected to the world around us.

Here in Namibia, we already see this happening through environmental organisations, youth initiatives, sustainable businesses, and communities finding innovative ways to care for both people and the planet.

Happy World Environment Day, and may we continue moving toward ways of living that are inspired by caring for the future we all share. 🌍

In Conscious Conversation with Suené Venter, founder of Kwaikie Bakery. 🍪

This month, we visited Suené, the woman behind Kwaikie’s Bakery, a home bakery known for its fresh, homemade baked goods and beloved assortment of rusks, available at Zero Waste Store, and other products.

Interestingly, baking did not begin as her profession. Suené is actually a lawyer by profession, but what started as a hobby and lifelong love for baking slowly grew into a business that now supplies locally made products to the community through spaces like Zero Waste Store.

Her story is another way we have found that meaningful local businesses are built from passion, curiosity, and a willingness to create something with care, and they are the future of how we can grow as a nation.

Stay tuned as we continue this month and learn more about the work, journey, and values behind Kwaikie’s Bakery

World Environment Day is approaching, and we're highlighting some of the organisations and initiatives already contributing to environmental awareness, climate resilience, and sustainable community action here in Namibia.

By supporting community endeavours, attending educational events, participating in clean-up drives, planting trees, or simply becoming more informed, you can begin to contribute to a larger culture of environmental responsibility and awareness.

This year’s World Environment Day theme reminds us that collective action matters and that communities have the power to shape more sustainable futures.

Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.

Ever wonder what your life would look like if you slowed down?

Sometimes we become so used to the rush of everyday that slowing down can feel unfamiliar. But through the way we build routines, environments, and habits, we can create more room for clarity.

What’s one habit that helps you slow down and reconnect with yourself?

Winter's breakfast of champions is here.

With the cold creeping in, oats is one of the simplest ways to start the day feeling nourished and satisfied.

Rich in fibre and incredibly versatile, it can be enjoyed as a warm porridge, overnight oats, in smoothies, baked, and toasted for a delicious granola.

This pantry staple is available in store.

This year theme is centred on water security, sustainable sanitation, and development in support of Agenda 2063.

For us, this theme is a powerful reminder that sustainability is deeply connected to our everyday lives, especially here at home. From the way we consume water, to the products we choose, to the waste we create, conscious living plays an important role in protecting Africa’s future.

As a continent facing growing environmental challenges, caring for our natural resources has never been more important. Small actions — refilling instead of repurchasing, reducing unnecessary waste, supporting sustainable alternatives, and consuming more mindfully- all contribute to a healthier, more resilient future for our communities.

Today, we celebrate not only Africa’s beauty, diversity, and strength, but also the responsibility we share in protecting it for generations to come.

Happy Africa Day from the Zero Waste Store family ✨
