We'll Replicate Abia Template in Edo, Otti Leads LP Guber Campaign for Akpata | .

Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Thursday, 12th September, stormed Benin City, the Edo State Capital, to drum support for the Labour Party Governorship Candidate Barr. Olumide Akpata and his Deputy Prince Yusulf Asamah Kadiri.

Speaking to a large crowd of cheering supporters who came out to receive him and the LP entourage, Governor Otti said that they came to reinforce the decision of the Edo People.

"The reason we came is to reinforce the decision you have already made because I know that you have taken a decision already. And I believe the decision you have made is to vote for Olumide Akpata and Kadiri. Your decision is the best.

"Edo State is too important to be left in the hands of people who are fighting. They will be fighting and then we come under and take what belongs to us", Governor Otti declared.

The Governor charged the electorates to protect their votes after voting for the Labour Party.

"I have a challenge for all of you, particularly the young ones. And that challenge is that on that day, 21st of September, that challenge is that after voting where you have Mama, Papa, and Pikin, you must remain there to protect your votes. The rat cannot steal the property of a man who is awake.

"So you must be vigilant and awake. After voting, you must protect your votes. It is you that will protect the votes and also the candidate. So, it is a joint effort.

"Some people are asking if we will protect your votes. Of course, we will protect your votes. But you have to protect it at the polling Units and ensure the right result is announced. Thereafter, you can leave the rest for us", Governor Otti assured.

Speaking further, the Governor assured the people of Edo State that the Labour Party is serious and committed to changing the lives of Edo people for good.

In his words, "I want to assure you that we are here for serious business and there is a template that the Labour Party has. The template we are implementing in Abia State is the template Olu will implement in Edo State. That template is about the people. It's about you. It is not about the big men. The Labour Party candidate assured the people of Edo State that he would replicate what is happening in Abia in Edo if elected.

Governor Otti was joined in the campaign by the Secretary of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee Sen. Darlington Nwaokocha, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba PhD, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs - Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs - Sir Prince Uzor Nwachukwu and other top Aides to the Governor.

I travelled to Bangladesh last week to participate in the Investment Forum organized by the Bangladesh Government and Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council.

As a Guest Speaker at one of the events, I spoke on "SME Formalisation and Internationalisation in the Commonwealth: Empowering Growth and Global Reach." I visited Bangladesh in mid-2009, about 6 months after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assumed office.

At that time, the country's Human Development Index was within the low category. Her GDP was $102 billion, with a GDP per capita of $688. Unemployment was around 10-12%. You could see and feel the poverty and poor infrastructure.

When I returned last week, about 14 years after, their Human Development Index (HDI) was now on the high side of the Medium category and will soon be in the High category. Their GDP is $460 billion with a GDP per capita of $2700. The unemployment rate is now below 5%.

Poverty has been greatly reduced and infrastructure greatly improved from what it was in 2009. They have a steady growth average of over 6% within the said period. Though still grappling with some challenges, the Leadership is determined and focused on a productive and progressive Bangladesh with clear and measurable goals for growth.

After the visit and interacting with Leaders, I remain convinced that with the right Leadership, a new Nigeria that will be productive, and progressive, devoid of tribalism, religious sentiments, and criminality, but will benefit all is POssible.

MESSAGE TO ALL OBIDIENTS AND MY SUPPORTERS

“DESPAIR IS NOT AN OPTION”.

My Dear Obidient Family and Supporters,

I trust that you all have listened to, or read my reaction to the judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday, 6th September

2023. Understandably, there has been a note of general disappointment within our fold and indeed the general population of Nigerians who hoped that the outcome of the February 25th Presidential election would usher in a new and different Nigeria of our dreams. That dream has only
been deferred for now but remains alive for all times. Since the Tribunal verdict, there has been a note of general despair among the Obidients and the generality of our supporters. I assure you all that on this journey, despair or surrender is not in our options.
Today, I want to personally reach out and encourage you all to keep hope alive. Considering the challenges that lie ahead of us as a movement, despair is not an option. Nothing good in life comes easy. Throughout history, positive changes come only with sacrifices, perseverance,

resilience and fluctuating fortunes. Right from the onset of our journey, I told you all that the journey upon which we were about to embark was not a short sprint, but a long and tough marathon. It was always going to be difficult, painful and excruciating.
We set out knowing fully well that the forces we are up against are entrenched and formidable but not insurmountable. They would resist the wind of change and try to push us into surrender or despair. We must not succumb to their design.

I am inspired that we have endured the odds placed in our way at every point. In such a short space of time, we have persevered to get to the point where we cannot be ignored any longer. Therefore, I urge you to abide and never think of giving up.

I wish to assure you that our recent disappointments have inspired me to re-dedicate myself to the cause of building a New Nigeria. For me, rescuing Nigeria is a lifelong commitment, and on this journey, we shall be resolute but orderly, principled but lawful.
I assure you that we shall persist with even greater determination and zeal until we get to our destination. Nigeria must belong to all Nigerians and not to a select few.

Like all of you, I believe fervently that a New Nigeria is POssible. God bless you all and God bless Nigeria.

Peter Obi

Today, I and the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, were honoured to join many eminent Nigerians, including former Head of State, General. Yakubu Gowon, and President Goodluck Jonathan, at the public presentation of Chief Dr Senator Edwin Kaigbodo Clark's seminal autobiography, "Brutally Frank." The eclectic list of guests and the mammoth crowd present reflect the high esteem in which Nigerians hold Chief Clark. I am confident that his autobiography will fully reflect, his candour, patriotism, and commitment to nation-building, in which his role is far beyond a footnote. He has set an example for other eminent Nigerians to follow in recording what transpired in their private and public services to Nigeria.

Most importantly, given Chief Clark’s long history of service to the nation, his autobiography will no doubt serve as an invaluable sourcebook in national history to younger generations.

I salute and congratulate Chief EK Clark for his gift of experience and courageous leadership over the years. -PO

Today, I was saddened to hear that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is exiting Nigeria after 51 years of operation.
Their reason for leaving Nigeria is even more disheartening; they no longer perceive a prospect for the country as a business environment that would be anchored on productivity. We have painfully come to that point in our nation's journey where multinationals are leaving the country and the local ones are closing down. These are some of the consequences of the cumulative poor management of our economy.
As a result, millions are losing their jobs and our poverty index is worsening, even though we're already being perceived as the world’s poverty capital. The multinationals that are leaving our country have not only created jobs but have created immeasurable training that
contributed immensely to our human capital development over the years. Now they are leaving our shores one after the other. GSK which has a manufacturing facility in Agbara, Ogun State on over 25 hectares of land had directly employed over 400 highly technical workers like
pharmacists, microbiologists, biochemists, chemists, dentists, doctors etc, and also employed over 1000 other staff. It indirectly provided jobs and business opportunities for thousands of Nigerians across the nation. They are now leaving all these behind, and pushing more people back into unemployment. I have consistently maintained that in turning our nation around, we must move the economy from consumption to production, part of which included encouraging and supporting local and foreign investments, like GSK, in the country.
The creation of an environment that creates and sustains multinationals to invest in our country is key to our dream of greatness. In the new Nigeria that we seek to create, the emphasis on production will encourage investors to stay and expand on our shores.
Our people will keep their jobs and grow their prosperity. -PO
