WHEN MY HEART CANNOT FORGET IT.
I loved you in quiet ways,
In the spaces between my breaths,
In the soft hope of morrow
That whispered your name in my chest.
I gave you a heart so open,
But you that it in the art of disguise,
Believing your silence was gentle,
Not a storm in disguise.
But you turned like the wind,
Unannounced, without goodbye,
And chose another horizon
While I stood asking why.
Now every glimpse of your shadow
Shakes something broken in me,
My heart pounds like thunder in pain,
Longing for what cannot be.
It beats like a wounded drum,
Out of rhythm, confused, and loud,
Like a bombshell waiting to scatter
The pieces I cannot hold proud.
You left, and kept me
With a love that had nowhere to go,
Now even your presence in distance
Turns my warm days cold.
So I choose the silence of your absence,
The healing that distance can give,
For some hearts must walk away bleeding
Just to remember how to live.
