BARRISTER SANI HUSAINI GARUN GABAS SAN.AN ELDER WITH COURAGE AND HOPE.
Choosing a certified lawyer or a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to serve as a senator can be very beneficial because of the nature of the work done in the Senate. The Senate is a lawmaking body, and lawyers are trained specifically in understanding, interpreting, and applying the law. This means they already have skills that match the responsibilities of a senator.
First, lawyers and SANs understand how laws are made. They know the constitution, legal principles, and how different laws affect society. This helps them create clearer, more effective laws that are easy to implement and beneficial to the people.
Second, they are very good at analyzing government actions. Lawyers are trained to examine documents, question decisions, and detect errors or illegalities. This makes them effective in overseeing the executive arm of government and ensuring transparency and accountability.
Third, lawyers are also skilled communicators. They know how to debate, defend ideas, and negotiate. These skills help them speak up for their constituents and defend the interests of the people they represent.
In addition, lawyers especially SANs understand human rights and constitutional protections. They can identify when a proposed law may violate citizens’ rights and work to prevent injustice. This helps ensure the laws passed are fair and do not harm the public.
Also, because of their professional training, lawyers often have strong ethical standards. SANs in particular have built a reputation over many years and are less likely to engage in behaviors that can damage their integrity or the image of their constituency.
Furthermore, many national issues such as treaties, commercial agreements, or constitutional amendments require deep legal knowledge. A lawyer senator is better prepared to understand and handle such matters.
