About Our Farm:Maripha Farms is more than just a food producer — we are change agents for a healthy Africa. As we say, “Food is medicine; medicine is food.” Our bodies thrive when we eat healthy, naturally grown food. In Swahili, this truth is beautifully captured as “Chakula Bora.”
At Maripha Farms, we let nature do the hard work. Our science-based approach embraces biodiversity in the soil and environment — this is smart agriculture: less work, lower costs, and better-quality food. Unlike many products on the market, where farming methods are often uncertain, ours are transparent, safe, and 100% natural. Even better, they’re affordable. The change we want to see in Africa begins right at home.

🐝🐝🐝❤️🌻🌻🌻We are thrilled to announce that our very first hive has been successfully colonized by bees! After a year of patience, hope, and dedication, witnessing this milestone fills us with joy and gratitude. To attract the bees, we planted sunflowers around the farm, and this year, they finally decided to come! It’s incredible to see how nature responds when we create a welcoming environment. The role of bees as pollinators cannot be overemphasized, and we are truly happy that they are now part of our success story. Their pollination helps us grow healthy crops and supports the goal of maximum biodiversity in our ecosystem.Stay tuned as we prepare to launch our Maripha Farms Raw Organic Honey soon! 🍯✨Enjoy our short video🌻🌻❤️🐝🐝

IITA Visits Maripha Farms
Just over a month ago, we shared a fascinating discovery at Maripha Farms: a nest of the African Wattled Lapwing, fiercely defended by the male against our West African Dwarf goat. This encounter offered a beautiful reflection on the wisdom of nature and sparked interest from several conservation organizations—including
the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).

On May 17th, we were honored to welcome Dr. Adewale Awoyemi, Manager of the IITA Forest Center, and Mr. Ademola Ajayi, Technical Field Supervisor of the IITA Forest Center, to Maripha Farms. Following their visit, they shared this observation:

“Maripha Farm, located in Obate Ballah Village, Eyenkorin, Ilorin, offers a unique opportunity for reforestation and agroecological development. The farm has a rich diversity of native flora and fauna. Bird species such as the Blue-bellied Roller (Coracias cyanogaster), African Wattled Lapwing (Vanellus senegallus), Black-billed Wood Dove (Turtur abyssinicus), Pied Crow (Corvus albus), and Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) were observed during our visit, indicating a vibrant ecosystem. Native trees like African Locust Bean (Parkia biglobosa), Shea Tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), and Cabbage Tree (Anthocleista vogelii) dot the landscape, showcasing the area's ecological resilience. A seasonal stream runs through the farm during the rainy season, further enhancing its suitability for sustainable land restoration. With its biodiversity and natural water source, Maripha Farm is well-positioned to serve as a model of how nature and agriculture can thrive together.”

This affirmation fuels our determination to do more and strengthens our partnership with IITA to implement a reforestation initiative at the farm. Our goal: plant over 2,000 trees and introduce beehives across three hectares—a project that brings to life our vision of "dancing with nature."
At Maripha Farms, we practice agroecology, biodiversity-centered agriculture, proving that nature and farming can coexist in harmony. We invite you to join us on this journey.

Our lapwing chicks are thriving and healthy! We spotted them walking among our mixed maize and watermelon crops, and we’re thrilled to be part of their journey. For the next week or two, we’ll protect them from predators, allowing the mother to care for them without interference. We're just here to provide extra security.

Maripha Farms Inaugural Tour: Inspiring the Next Generation of Agricultural Leaders

We were thrilled to host a total of 200 students, 17 teachers, and 25 invited guests from Al Bayyinah International School, Aladere-Ode Junior Secondary School Lasoju, and LGEA School, Obate-Ballah, for our first-ever "Dancing with Nature" Farm Tour—an immersive agroecological experience at Maripha Farms in Ilorin.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Omotesho, former Dean of Agriculture and Director of Academic Planning at the University of Ilorin, and Brian Stephenson, a seasoned civil engineer with over 40 years of experience and President of Passion of Hope International—both distinguished guests.
Students engaged in hands-on learning around regenerative agriculture, agroecology, sustainable farming practices, and food sovereignty. Activities ranged from feeding farm animals and planting tree seeds to crafting delicious groundnut chikki and peanut burgers—a true “farm-to-fork” experience.

This inaugural tour marks the beginning of our mission to engage, educate, and empower young minds in sustainable agriculture. Nigeria with a population of 237 million—70 percent of whom are under the age of 30—it is imperative that we begin feeding ourselves with healthy, homegrown food.
The percentage of active farmers compared to the population needing to be fed in Nigeria clearly shows that if we do not act now, our food imports will not only increase but rise at an alarming rate. Our mission is to rebalance the scale and help the next generation see that feeding ourselves is the first step toward true financial independence. What better way to start than by growing what you eat, and then producing surplus for the world?
We also demonstrated that farming is not limited to any one profession—you can be an engineer, lawyer, academic, caterer or doctor, and still be a farmer. Farming allows you to thrive in your chosen career while eating healthy and living sustainably.

At one point, the students were asked if they could go two days without eating—and the resounding answer was no. That response underscores the urgency of prioritising food production. At Maripha Farms, we are committed to cultivating a generation that values agriculture by farming them young.

We can’t wait to welcome more schools and nurture the agro-entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

The Maripha Farms School tour in Kwara state is a transformative experience for youth that embraces the goal of food sovereignty in Africa. We start at home! This initiative will engage two distinct types of students. The first are those who have little exposure to farming; their excitement at discovering where their food comes from can ignite a passion for agriculture, encouraging them to consider careers in this vital sector alongside their high aspirations of becoming lawyers, doctors, and engineers.

The second type of students are those who know farming from home. Repeating the toil of their parents is not a future. Many of them view farming as a limiting path. They are uninspired to envision farming’s potential for profitability and intellectual challenge. When asked, their response is never to go into farming. Our goal is to show them that when approached strategically—with a focus on value addition, integration and agro-ecology—farming can be a rewarding career that contributes significantly to both personal and community prosperity.

While the journey toward sustainable food sovereignty may be challenging, Maripha Farms is committed to fostering a mindset of resilience and innovation among these young minds. We believe that the future of Africa hinges on our ability to feed ourselves sustainably, and these students are pivotal to that vision. We encourage them to “dare to be different,” to recognize their potential as solution-oriented thinkers, and to embrace the opportunities that lie within the agricultural landscape.

The Maripha Farms School Tour hopes to cultivate a new generation of leaders in food sovereignty. Our children are the future and we are here to encourage them to see it too.

Maripha Farms is officially open for School tours within Kwara state and beyond.
