12. Over 100 billion bananas are eaten every year. That makes bananas one of the most popular fruits in the world and they are grown in more than 135 countries.
13. Plantains are bananas too. Plantains are a starchier variety of banana, usually cooked rather than eaten raw. It is common in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
14. As bananas ripen, their starch turns into sugar making them softer and sweeter. The brown spots on ripe bananas mean more natural sugar and easier digestion.
15. Green bananas are less sweet but higher in resistant starch, which helps control blood sugar and supports gut health. They are often boiled or fried in many tropical countries.
16. Many varieties of banana exist, which include Cavendish (dessert banana), plantain (cooking banana), red banana, and baby banana.
17. Don’t refrigerate bananas until they are ripe. To slow ripening, separate each banana or wrap the stem in plastic wrap.
18. Although healthy, eating too many bananas can lead to too much potassium (hyperkalemia) or excess sugar intake. 1–2 bananas a day is ideal for most people.
19. The inside of the peel of banana can be used to soothe insect bites, polish leather, or nourish plants as compost.
20. Banana may cause allergy in rare cases. Some people allergic to latex or certain fruits may react mildly to bananas.
21. Banana is a highly nutritious fruit that is rich in potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium, and fiber and naturally fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in sodium.
22. Banana gives energy, aids digestion, good for muscles, boosts mood, supports heart health, regulate heartbeat and blood pressure.
