I once stepped on a snake in the dark while living in Aliero, Kebbi State.
The thing crawled up my right leg and I kept shaking my leg and screaming until God delivered me that day. Since then, anything touching that leg in the night is an automatic emergency.
Fast forward to tonight.
My mum’s cat has been enjoying the fried fish I bring home, so in its mind we are now best friends. Unfortunately my love language is acts of service, not physical touch.
So I was lying down quietly when suddenly something grabbed my right leg.
My brain did not check.
My brain did not analyze.
My brain said: SNAKE.
Next thing I know, I had launched the poor cat across the room.
Only then did I realize it was my mum’s innocent cat trying to say,
“Thank you aunty for the fried fish.”
Now the cat is on one couch.
I am on the other couch.
Both of us traumatized.
And it has been eyeing me with pure attitude like,
“After everything we’ve shared?” 😹
