Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N950 to N890, effective from Saturday.

In a statement, the company said the price adjustment is in response to favourable developments in the global energy sector and a significant decline in international crude oil prices.

Dangote Refinery’s decision reflects its commitment to aligning with market realities and ensuring that consumers benefit from changes in international crude oil prices.”

In the statement issued by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company explained that this latest move follows a similar decision made on 19th January, when a price increase was implemented due to rising crude oil costs.

“However, with recent global market trends indicating a decline, Dangote Refinery has once again adjusted its pricing structure, providing relief to Nigerians.”

The statement also noted that the price reduction would significantly lower the cost of petrol across the country, generating a positive ripple effect throughout the broader economy.

The refinery also called on marketers across the country to ensure that the benefits of the reduced price are passed on to the Nigerian public, while reiterating its support for the economic revival spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu, whose administration is focused on making Nigeria self-sufficient in refined petroleum products and positioning the country as a leading oil export hub.

“This collective initiative will contribute to the wider economic recovery plan led by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is dedicated to making Nigeria self-sufficient in refined petroleum products and positioning the country as a leading oil export hub,” it added.

2027: Baraden Nasarawa Has Proven His Political Mettle In Various Roles
***
Among the aspirants vying to succeed Governor Sule, there are several noteworthy names. These include figures such as Dr. Fiasal Shuaib, the former Executive Director/CEO of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, and Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, a prominent lawmaker in the red chamber of the National Assembly under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Other contenders include Architect Shehu Ahmed Tukur, Alhaji Abu Giza, and Dr. Muhammed Musa Maikaya, all of whom have their own networks and support bases, Abel Leonard, writes.

Political pundits observed that despite the strong presence of these candidates, it’s Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed who seems to be gaining the most traction. The current Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, Musa has proven his political mettle in various roles, including as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. His track record of effective leadership, humility, and approachability has earned him the respect of many, and his candidacy is quickly gaining momentum.

They are of the opinion that Musa’s experience in governance and his ability to connect with people set him apart from other aspirants. His tenure as Speaker saw him navigate the challenging political waters of the state, maintaining a delicate balance between the executive and the legislature. This experience has made him a familiar and trusted figure, among the people of Nasarawa Local Government Area, where he hails from and the state at large.

Analyst noted some key factors driving Musa’s popularity which is his humility and accessibility. Unlike some politicians who only appear during election seasons, Musa has consistently made efforts to engage with the people, listening to their concerns and offering solutions. This has endeared him to many, particularly those who feel neglected by the political elite. His approachability, combined with his solid understanding of governance, both as former speaker and the current Accountant General positions him as a strong contender for the 2027 election.

While Musa’s candidacy is gaining traction, other aspirants are not backing down. Dr. Fiasal Shuaib, for instance, has indicated his interest in the governorship. Another significant player in the gubernatorial race is Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Analysts argue that Musa Ahmed Mohammed appears to be the candidate to beat. His ability to unite the various factions within the APC and his track record of public service make him a strong contender. If he continues to build on his momentum and maintain his strong relationship with the people, he could very well emerge as the next governor of Nasarawa State.
