They Stopped Me From Helping the Victims” — American Missionary Accuses Benue Govt of Blocking Market, Demanding ₦300m

An American missionary has accused the Benue State Government of stopping him from building a market to help people who survived the Yelwata attack.

According to him, the market was meant to help victims rebuild their lives and earn income after the deadly attack. He said he already had plans to build the market at a cost of about ₦50 to ₦60 million, which he believes is reasonable for a rural community.

However, he claimed the state government rejected his plan and later sent him a proposal demanding ₦300 million for the same project. The missionary questioned why a simple community market would cost that much, saying he has never seen a village market in Nigeria built for such an amount.

He also alleged that instead of focusing on helping survivors, some officials are more interested in bureaucracy and inflated costs, which delays real help for the affected people.

The Benue State Government has not publicly responded to his claims as of now.
