Starting a business from scratch is not as easy as it looks from the outside.

People see the shop.

They see the products on the shelves.

They see the nice packaging, the pictures, the videos and the orders coming in.

But they don't always see everything that happened before those things.

The money you had to put together.

The prices you had to check over and over again.

The times you calculated your cost and wondered, “Will I actually make anything from this?”

The things you bought that you later realised you didn't really need.

The days you don't make a single sale.

The pressure of trying to make your money back.

The fear of making the wrong decision.

And honestly, there have been moments since I started Nikziel Food Hub where I've asked myself, “What did I enter?” 😂

But I'm still here.

I'm learning as I go.

I'm making mistakes, correcting them and trying again.

And I'm slowly understanding that starting small doesn't mean you won't get somewhere. It simply means you have to be patient enough to build.

So if you've been thinking about starting that business you've had in your head for months or even years…

Start.

I'm not going to tell you it will be easy, because it won't.

There will be slow days. There will be mistakes. There will be moments when you question yourself.

But if it's something you genuinely want to do, don't let the fear of the difficult beginning stop you from finding out what it could become.

Start with what you have.

Learn.

Adjust.

Keep your records.

Know your numbers.

And keep going.

I'm still at the beginning of my own journey, but I'm glad I decided to try.

To everyone building something from scratch: I see you. ❤️

And to the person who has been saying “one day I'll start”…

Maybe one day can be today. 🌾💚

Today, I had to say NO to a customer… and it wasn't because I didn't want to sell. 😂

A customer reached out to me today and said he wanted 12 Indomie.

Then he gave me his budget:

₦3,000.

At first, I thought, okay, let me check it.

Then I remembered something every business owner eventually has to learn:

You cannot sell below your cost just because someone knows you.

😂

He knew me, so I completely understood why he probably thought I could “help him” with the price.

And honestly, I would have loved to make the sale.

But when I calculated it properly, selling 12 Indomie for ₦3,000 would mean I was selling at a loss.

And as much as I want customers to enjoy buying from Nikziel Food Hub, I also have to protect the business.

Because what is the point of making a sale today if I have to use my own money to cover the loss tomorrow?

That's one thing I'm beginning to understand about running a business:

Not every sale is a good sale.

Sometimes you have to say:

“I'm sorry, I can't do that price.”

Not because you're wicked.

Not because you don't value the customer.

But because you know your numbers.

And if you run a small business, you will understand exactly what I'm talking about. 😂

There is always that customer that says:

“Abeg, do am for me na. You know me.” 😂😭

But business is business.

I still want to give my customers good prices. I still want people to feel comfortable shopping with me. But I also want Nikziel Food Hub to remain standing and profitable.

Small business owners, have you ever had to turn down a sale because the customer's price would make you lose money?

Tell me your experience. 👇🏽

Something happened on Facebook that honestly made me pause. 🥹

Someone who doesn't know me personally recommended Nikziel Food Hub.

No one asked her to.
I didn't know her.
She simply saw the business and decided to say something good about it.

And honestly, when you're building something from scratch, you don't take moments like that for granted.

Sometimes we focus so much on the orders, the sales and the numbers that we forget that trust is also a win.

Someone seeing what you're building and saying, “I recommend this business”…

That touched me. ❤️

To who took the time to recommend Nikziel Food Hub, thank you. You may not realise how much those few words encouraged me.

We're still building.
We're still learning.
But we're getting there, one person at a time. 🌾💚

Have you ever received unexpected support from someone you didn't even know? 🥹

What if your foodstuff seller actually cared about the quality you take home? 👀

That’s the kind of experience we’re building at Nikziel Food Hub.

No unnecessary talk. Just quality you can see and trust.

Before you pour that garri today, did you
know…?"

Garri + groundnuts → adds protein, healthy fats and extra calories.

Garri + milk → improves the protein and calcium content.

Garri + beans → much more balanced because beans provide substantial protein and fibre.

Garri + sugar only → mostly gives you carbohydrates and added sugar, with little protein or micronutrient variety.

And when people drink a very large quantity of garri, the calories can add up quickly because dry garri is quite energy-dense.

One thing people often get wrong
You may hear people say "garri has no nutritional value." That's not accurate.

It does provide energy and some nutrients, but compared with foods such as beans, eggs, fish, vegetables and nuts, it is relatively low in protein and several micronutrients.

Also, the nutritional composition can vary depending on the cassava variety and processing method.

One thing nobody tells you about starting a small business…

You can have the shop.
You can have the products.
You can have the logo, packaging and everything looking ready…

And still wake up some mornings wondering:

“Will people actually buy from me?” 😂

I've had those thoughts too.

But these past few days have reminded me why I shouldn't give up.

Someone walked into the shop and placed an order. Another person asked me to pack and send their goods to their office. Someone who doesn't even know me personally recommended Nikziel Food Hub on Facebook.

These may look like little things, but to someone building from scratch, they are huge. 🥹💚

I'm learning that business doesn't always grow with one big breakthrough.

Sometimes it's just one customer.
One recommendation.
One order.
One person telling another person about you.

And you keep showing up.

If you're building something too, what's one small win you've had recently that meant a lot to you? 👇🏽

One thing I've learnt since starting Nikziel Food Hub is that running a business is not just about selling.

Sometimes, it's about learning people.

Learning what they need.

Learning what they can afford.

Learning how to make things easier for them.

And honestly, I'm enjoying that part of the journey. 💚

Every day I open the shop, I learn something new.

Sometimes it's from a customer.

Sometimes it's from an order.

Sometimes it's from a mistake I wish I had avoided. 😂

But we're learning and we're growing.

For those who run a business, what's one thing your customers have taught you?

I'd really love to hear yours. 👇🏽

There is something about Monday morning that makes you suddenly remember all the things you didn't do last week. 😂

Laundry.

House cleaning.

Foodstuff.

That one thing you told yourself, “I'll do it tomorrow.”

And somehow… tomorrow became Monday. 😭😂

But one thing I'm learning as I build this business is that small things become big things when you keep showing up.

A shop doesn't become a business in one day.

You stock it.

You arrange it.

You learn.

You make mistakes.

You try again.

You get your first customer.

Then another.

Then another.

And before you know it, something that existed only in your head starts becoming real.

That's where I am with Nikziel Food Hub.

Still learning. Still building. Still showing up. 💚

What is one thing you're determined to get done this week? 👇🏽
