CLOSED: Sun/Mon/Tue For your dinner, weekend BBQ, lush or laid back Christmas or simply to indulge a carnivorous craving we have a range of quality fresh meat and Akaroa salmon, manuka smoked ham and bacon and charcuterie. Our fresh gluten and preservative free sausages are made weekly on site by butchers Brendan and Ben and you'll often smell hams and bacon being smoked as you wander Rue Lavaud.

For a platter, picnic or nibble we have a range of local and European cheeses, pates, pickles, olives, etc. as well as award winning local olive oils and sauces, pasta and meaty accompaniments…..and your everyday basics. Butchers pies and eggs.

Ohhhh there’s that vibe in the air … the one when your friends look at the forecast and start asking if you have room for visitors in gorgeous Akaroa this weekend! Like they forgot it’s still the most beautiful seaside spot in Canterbury even during winter 😂 (we know better).

We have the goodies for the under pressure hosts and I have high hopes for more arriving on the truck today 👍

Open 10 am - 5:30 pm / Sat 10 am - 4 pm and closed Sun/Mon/Tues (Sept School hols we’ll be back to 5 days open).

Your weekly faves of eggs, pizzas, lasagne, and salmon are all in and ready (have more salmon on the way as the hungry arrived thick and fast yesterday!)

Let’s talk about our lovely NZ pork.
Did you know that over 60% of pork in NZ is imported from other countries that don’t have the same standard of animal welfare as us?
Due to our small size, we can concentrate solely on providing you beautiful pork (that we pick up as whole carcasses in our wee truck from Chch each week) from Patoa Farms, free farmed pigs near Hawarden.
We process these are ourselves offering you pure products like pork belly, pork steaks, pork belly strips, pork fillets and pork mince. We also cure and smoke our own bacon and ham right here in the shop. Bacon is cut by hand a few times a week!
And not forgetting that this pork also makes our yummy, filler free, only meat sausages! If you wonder what that means, check out the ingredients label of a pack of sausages next time you’re roaming for groceries … ours don’t have a long list of unknown names like that!

Good morning!
The 101 for our first day back open is :
- fresh Akaroa King Salmon, bacon, ham, chicken, staple beef, pork, lamb will all be at the ready.
- pizzas and eggs will be arriving late afternoon today.
- lasagne is being made today ready for tomorrow.
- sausages are being made fresh this morning and rolling out as they are 👍
- few gaps in spots as we wait for deliveries to roll in.

And just a few weeks left of our Sun/Mon/Tues closed then as the Sept school hols hit, we’ll be back to our 5 day week 👍

And just like that - 2.5 weeks of T doing jobs at home on his staycation… has now popped him back in the butch to do them there instead 😂

But some notable mentions of our lovely staycay enjoyed in our favourite bays are:

- Akaroa and Bays Lions Bingo night was a brilliantly funny giant community party. What a tiiimmmmeee!!!

- A treat of a night at Ridgecliff Big Hill cabin near Little Akaloa reminded us why you don’t need to leave the peninsula for a change of scene and some luxury!

- Playing tour guide with Canadian visitors was a delight. They were taken all over the show including being forced on friends homes as part of the sights too!

- A visit from some of my favourite garden friends who I made stand in the rain until we had fully nutted out my plan 😂

- Dinner with a gang at The Duvauchelle Hotel was OUTSTANDING and couldn’t recommend more. The space has had a beautiful freshen up and the menu and food was absolutely divine 🙌

- Takamatua time was also excellent and I achieved my dream of cloud-like pruning of our boundary pittosporum (with T’s skills and the best borrowed ladder EVER) and T achieved his dream of getting rid of a ton of stuff in the garage and lining it. Life progress right there 😂

- And we’re excited about our new butchery roof and brilliant paint job in the kitchen/cutting room thanks to G-rizl Painters Ltd - Grant who responded last minute🙌. Onward and upward for the old girl. Just a wee note - the reroofing was decided only 4 days before our break by our council landlords. This is also inline with the resounding feedback given by the community during the last two years of consultation around the BP Meats site.
Yes… the annex was not included in this, but you have your chance to give your opinion on the future of that part of the building in the upcoming public consultation. If you’d like the annex saved (as I’m sure the Tiny Store, Opp Shop and Akaroa Arts Council do!) then please make the effort to provide your feedback when the options are issued soon.
But we thank you for helping us in our own efforts as the current leaseholders to pave a future for butchers in that building, as there have been for 100 years 👍

‘Last day open before break’ news comes first because you’ll stop reading if I share the BIG news at the start!!! 😬🥰

My crystal ball broke and I ordered too many pizzas.
Soooo fresh pizzas are $24.50 today or two for $45 👍
Sausies are getting low, so a morning stock up best.
I still have a good amount of fresh free range chicken breasts but out of fresh thighs and whole chickens BUT Bostock freezer still good for options.
Your meaty staples are pretty good to choose from! And the new shipment of Monty & Sons NZ grown and made arrived yesterday including a new shape.

Now … hold your hat because… in a very very unexpected change of approach, our council landlords have decided to RE ROOF THE BUTCHERY this coming week!!!!!!!!
So please forgive the disruption to traffic flow and come say bye bye to the cheese grater blue roof. She’s entering a new era and will VERY much enjoy the care. 🙌🙏

Thank you for our patience with our 2.5 weeks closed. T will rest between the big list of garden jobs 😂 Nothing like a staycay in gorgeous Takamatua to rack up some relaxation.

For my cracker connoisseur’s… amazing news. The cult green_house_catering crackers are BACK and we are the ONLY lucky stockist outside their direct click and collect in Christchurch!! If you know .. you know 🤤 ❤️

Taramasalata and olive hummus is back!
LAST batch of laZAGne is at the ready this morning.
LAST batch of T’s delish smoked ribs and bacon hocks.
Fresh free range thighs and breasts will not be topped up, so I’d recommend popping in today if you need a stash.

WIND DOWN FOR BREAK : last day this Friday! ✌️
Righto! I am doing a quick Chch run today for the last pizza top up. We have frozen base packs available though…

We have some frozen salmon portions available and only cold smoked, and small supply of hot smoked portions.

Potato gratin is at the ready and the last batch of lasagne will be available to you from Thursday morning.

Full run of fresh free range chicken thighs, breasts and whole chicks are here too. Sausies, steaks, mince, casserole etc alllll goood with a small sausie top up happening today.

Bird feeders and dog rolls will be stocked up this afternoon too.

Tomorrow we will look at any clearance pricing and potentially Friday depending on what is left.

Fresh batch of saus is all ready for you but I have six lonely chickens that need to be dinner or popped in the freezer. On spesh for $16.50 today 👍
We have whole and half leg lamb roasts plus some tidy beef bolar roasts. Steak alley is looking yummy and our good clean, additive free mince continues to be a fave.

10 am - 4 pm today then closed Sun/Mon/Tues
Don’t forget next Friday 21st is our last while we take a wee break. Reopening Wednesday 9th Sept 👍

Loving these commutes to work now that the sun is up earlier!
Forgot to mention yesterday that we have a batch of T’s pre smoked NZ pork ribs at the ready, the last of the silverside before closing next Friday too.
T is making fresh batch of sausies this morning, so full range will be on offer after lunch.

I will do a small order of pizzas for next Wednesday afternoon but would recommend getting your stash sooner rather than later. We won’t be ordering salmon next week so pop in today or raid our discounted frozen portions 👍

Items we want to clear before the break will only be known this time next week sorry, and based on what is left and isn’t happy in our chiller or freezer.

In prepping to close a biz full of perishable goods 😬, we have to kind of ‘wind down’. So the fresh Akaroa King Salmon delivery we have out for you this morning will likely be the last before closing (reserve the right to do an emergency order next week 😅). We also have some good frozen portions which are on special.

Fresh pizzas are out too - unsure if doing order next week, so would recommend you stocking up if need be 👍

We’ll be closed for a break with last day Friday 21st August and reopening Wed 9th Sept.
