e made weekly on site by butchers Brendan and Ben and you'll often smell hams and bacon being smoked as you wander Rue Lavaud. For a platter, picnic or nibble we have a range of local and European cheeses, pates, pickles, olives, etc. as well as award winning local olive oils and sauces, pasta and meaty accompaniments…..and your everyday basics.

Hello team!
Just checking in from my dream tour of England where heatstroke is always threatening! Who knew?! 😝

A reminder that T and the crew will be open this Fri/Sat for Kings Birthday (but not our normal extender of Sunday).
We then move into our winter hours of Wednesday - Fri 10 am - 5:30 pm / Sat 10 am - 4 pm and closed Sun/Mon/Tues.

That’s me in Lyme Regis - an outrageously beautiful coastal summer town and yes … I check butcheries and delis at every turn! Coming home with some ideas!

All my fellow Akaroa travellers are in good health - just very very hot 😜 but we have visited gardens like it’s our full time job. No complaints xo

We have a wee deal for you today !
20% off our delicious plant based filled pastas from annnnd $20 kg on our Canterbury barn raised chicken breast while stocks last.

We’re also all topped up on fresh sausies, potato gratin and lasagne (although it was running out the dirt yesterday!)

Ok Team! BIG UPDATE on how things will run at the butchery for the next 3 weeks 👍

Julia (me) is winging away to the Chelsea Flower Show and going on a tour of UK gardens with a contingent of Akaroaians for 3 whole weeks! 😬😍✌️( A bucket list DREAM)

T bone the butcher is NOT going 😅🥸🥴 and will be here with Emma and Gary manning your meaty and foodie needs.

We are open as normal up to Kings Birthday weekend.
THEN from Sunday 31st May we move into our Winter Hours.
This will see us open:
Wed - Fri 10 am - 5.30 pm / Sat 10 am - 4 pm each week. Closed: Sun/Mon/Tues.
We REALLY appreciated your patience with us on this format last year and this year plan to run a weekly winter locals special to show our appreciation even more.

So you can expect mostly business as normal! 🤞

Thank you again for your support. We have A LOT of goodies in store this week including a special on barn raised chicken breasts.

It’s FRIYAY! And the butchery news is:

- T’s next batch of 5 hr pre smoked, pre marinated half racks of NZ ribs are at the ready. We tested with some of the new award winning .nz cherry bourbon rib glaze on the week and 👌

- Eat The Freezer sale continues today. 2 x bags of pork bones for just $5, and yellow sticker 20% off on our store made Boerewors, lamb shanks, lamb kidneys and livers, pork roast, chicken kebabs, whole chicken, lamb ribs and more. Come for a browse - while stocks last today.

- Beef roasts, schnitzel, silverside, pork schnitzel and more in the window. It’s full!

We’re happy to say we’ve made the move to Canterbury free range chicken thighs and breasts with only a small price adjustment. Our fresh whole chickens remain Canterbury barn raised to keep accessible but we always have our Organic Free range options with Bostock Chicken available too.

Our first batch of silverside is ready for the season! And we’re all stocked up elsewhere with our fresh weekly deliveries. Pus T whipped up another batch of lasagne and potato gratin too.

ALERT! Yet ANOTHER glorious autumn day in Akaroa and the bays. It’s really our superpower season and if I was sitting in Christchurch I’d be hatching immediate travel plans to get over the hill to us as the forecast is just as good!

T’s smoked ribs are at the ready! Hopefully we’ve made enough for them not to disappear in the first two hours! All the easy weekend favourites are in plus our yummy staples.

Keen to mix things up in the dinner department? We have our store made NZ pork bacon hocks, NZ venison medallion steaks, rumps and frozen mince, also some lamb mince on offer today! Plus polite sized beef bolar roasts.
Our pork schnitzel is joined by beef schnitzel later this morning, fresh organic chicken has landed, fresh and lasagne out today too.

Pizza fridge is full and all our good staples are in 👍

Wow these stunning peninsula autumn days are surely tempting some bunking of work!!! 😍🌞
NEW in store we have a gorgeous selection of useful, hand crafted kitchen items by the Akaroa Men’s Shed.
Recycled NZ timbers and even pizza boards crafted from heart macrocarpa from Hickory Bay!
If you don’t know what a porridge spurtle is … trust me once you see these beauties you’ll decide you definitely need one!

Open from 10 am - 5:30 pm and well stocked up with your regular goodies.
