We want to let customers know that rebuild planning for our store is well underway. With demolition completed in late September and the site now cleared, the team has been able to move into the design phase ✏️

The aim is to bring back a store that reflects modern retail design while keeping the character of the previous store that so many locals loved. The rebuild will use the same footprint, supported by a refreshed layout and operational improvements, and the project team is working towards achieving Green Star certification.

Here are some demolition key stats:
🚛 95 truckloads of material removed
♻️Nearly 30% of demolition material recycled
♻️Nearly 5 tonnes of mixed glass recycled
♻️Thousands of bottles emptied and recycled

The building’s underground carpark, substructure and foundations can all be retained for the new supermarket, which will help streamline the rebuild.

We’ll continue to share updates as planning progresses.

Work is well under way to make our fire-damaged site safe for entry. Right now, it’s still too dangerous for anyone to go inside, but specialist crews and structural engineers are on-site, carefully stabilising the building so we can begin the recovery.

We’re 100% committed to rebuilding a new supermarket on the same site. Our focus is on getting back up and running as quickly as we can, but safety comes first.

In the meantime, we’ve brought forward the opening of New World Point Chevalier, just 5km away. You’ll now be able to shop there from Tuesday, 19 August and you can continue to shop online at www.newworld.co.nz.

To our amazing team, we’re continuing to work one-on-one with each of you and are so grateful for your patience and resilience. Being part of the Foodstuffs North Island co-operative means Foodstuffs have been able to off over 100 roles across 23 Auckland stores, and we’re doing everything we can to help our people find the right next step.
