Beef lasagne, a classic.
Here’s a simple recipe to make it at home.
Pasta Vera lasagne sheets – 3 x 200g pack
Beef mince – 500g
Crushed tomatoes – 400g can
½ brown onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
Olive oil – 2 tbsp
Tomato paste – 2 tbsp
Full cream milk – 3 cups
Plain flour – ½ cup
Nutmeg – ¼ tsp
Butter – 4 tbsp
Mozzarella, grated – 250g
Parmesan, grated – 50g
Salt & pepper to taste
1. Make the bolognese Heat the olive oil, soften the onion (3 min), add garlic (1 min), then brown the mince. Stir in tomato paste, cook 2 minutes, add crushed tomatoes. Season, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
2. Make the béchamel Melt butter, stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thick. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. It should coat the back of a spoon generously - don't thin it out.
3. Put it together Preheat oven to 180°C fan. Grease a deep baking dish (around 30x20cm). Spread a thin layer of béchamel on the base, then layer: 1.sheets 2.bolognese 3.béchamel 4.mozzarella. Repeat, finishing with a thick béchamel layer on top and parmesan scattered over.
4. Bake Cover with foil, bake 30 minutes. Remove foil, bake another 15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
5. Rest Leave 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
