Season 2026 has come to a close.
In the past couple of weeks, we have already seen the leaves on the bushes begin to turn their beautiful scarlet colour, confused by the seasons with the inconsistent weather.
The rain fell at the start of the season and we were hopeful. Hopeful and grateful. We rely on some rain for plump, juicy blueberries. It continued to fall, bringing uncertainty and doubt as to what the season would bring.
We quickly realized we could no longer plan for PYO based on the best weather that week, and we worried how it would affect the quality of our market supply.
Each week went by and more rain fell. The sun shone randomly throughout but just as we felt life was drying out, it rained again.
So PYO went on and we, no doubt, quickly became one of the best outdoor rainy day activities in Dunedin. Everyone was positive and happy to be there, some even going as far as saying they love picking in the rain.Β
As it turns out, blueberries are such a powerful superfood, that they can even withstand the element of rain that could cause devastation to some.
And with that, it is because of all of you, that we do what we do. Our little business wouldn't be what it is without you.
Whether you come to our stall at the farmers market, pick numerous kilos or 1 kilo at PYO, or support us by choosing to buy our blueberries instead of the ones at the supermarket market, we appreciate you.
We genuinely enjoy seeing all our loyal regulars year after year, as well as, meeting those who have come for the first time.
A gorgeous couple said this season, our Orchard and PYO is such a special place for them. It coincides with important events in their life and for alot of similar reasons, it has become a tradition for many, year after year. We are honored that our beautiful corner of Fairfield can be that place for so many during the season.
We have stocked our freezers with premium grade blueberries which will be available throughout the year until sold out.
All the best for the year ahead. We look forward to seeing you on the other side, to do it all again.
