Supporting the Peak Trail Blazer in Hawke’s Bay

This weekend, we were excited to support the Peak Trail Blazer held at Havelock North Primary School in Hawke’s Bay! We donated boxes of fresh bananas to help fuel participants as they took on the challenge.

Both kids and adults participated, with the 3.5km Tainui Trail for children and the 12.8km Te Mata Peak Trail for older kids and adults. It was fantastic to see individuals, families, and school teams all getting involved and challenging themselves.

We’re proud to be part of such a community-focused event that raises funds for Havelock North Primary School and the Te Mata Park Trust. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and thanks to the organisers for another successful event. We’re already looking forward to next year!

If I’ve learnt anything since opening Asian Diner it’s how to live off my credit card, and know when to ask for help. This post is about both.

While we have an amazing core clientele made up of varying degrees of regular (some weekly, some monthly, some more, some less), there simply aren’t enough of you. The biz has been growing slow and steady over the last 17 months, but in order to keep doing what it does, Asian Diner needs a bigger audience.

Look, I get it. Sh*t’s expensive rn. LOTS of people are sick. The weather has been garbage. Even I’m on a spending hiatus while Asian Diner has temporarily demoted me to almost unpaid intern. And if I was off work on a cold wet Friday night there’s no way you’d be dragging me out of bed and away from Love Island for a burger and a beer.

All these things are completely fine. I truly respect and understand all of the reasons why anyone might not come out to eat. But when they happen all at once and you have a few quiet weeks suddenly you’ve burned through your financial buffer and annihilated any sense of good will you had towards this entity you created.

I know you guys can only come in so often even when you’re fit, healthy, and feelin’ flush. So what I’m proposing is that you tell someone about us. Because we’re still pretty off the radar. If you know you know is fun and all but if you don’t know you don’t go and then we go and then I have to get a job and honestly f**k that.

This isn’t a guilt trip or a pity party. I’m not your toxic ex trying to get your attention by having a cry. But I share so much on this account that it felt weird not to address the above. I’m super grateful for the support I get both professionally and personally from friends and customers. The biz just needs a little more. Ideally the customer part but I’ll take whatever’s going tbh 😂
