Happy Father's Day for Sunday! The weather's looking kinder for us too, so it's the perfect excuse to bring Dad down to the Railway Station for a relaxed morning out.

Marshall's back, and so is your fresh fish fix 🐟

The wait is over, Just Fish returns to the market this Sunday, just in time for Father's Day.

The fresh salmon is always a favourite, and if you haven't tried the monkfish, this is your chance. It holds its shape brilliantly no matter how you cook it, and locally it's earned the nickname "poor man's crayfish" thanks to a similar flavour profile, a proper treat for Dad's Sunday dinner.

Have a chat to Marshall while you're there, ask what's fresh and where it's come from. He often has a delicacy or two tucked away in the freezer worth asking about. Real food, straight from local fishermen to your table.

Close to a decade of steam buns 🥟

Some stalls just become part of the furniture, in the best way. Luisteambunz has been here every single week for close to a decade now, rain or shine, without fail, usually fronted by Rod while Lui and Richel keep things going behind the scenes. Not a one-off stall you catch once and forget, a weekly ritual Southlanders have built into their Sundays for years.

The buns are warm, soft and made fresh, week in and week out. Grab one for yourself or a few to share, they're always great value.

Father's Day is on Sunday, and if you're still stuck for a gift, shop local. Everything at the market is made right here in Murihiku, by the people who sell it.

Pots of Gold Bespoke Ceramics: Handmade mugs, bowls, travel mugs, salt pigs, spoon rests, even a teapot and single-serve tea set if he's partial to a proper brew. Every piece thrown and glazed locally.

Hana Toi Waihopai: Paua shell and pounamu jewellery, taniko earrings, poi, and framed korowai, crafted locally with real meaning behind every piece.

Te Whenua me te Wairua: Rongoā oils, balms and tinctures, dried herbs, and colloidal silver, made the traditional way, locally.

Wet, windy, grey out there today. All the more reason to get down to the Railway Station.

Under the veranda we're dry, we're open, and we've got hot food ready to go, fresh produce, and pantry staples for the week ahead, plus books and handmade soaps if you want to make a proper outing of it.

7th Heaven Wine only make it up from Central Otago once a month, and they're here today. Others have travelled in from right across Murihiku too, including a young student with her fresh pâté, and our newest (and youngest, she's just 13!) stallholder back with her dehydrated dog treats.

No shortcuts. Just real food and good people, rain or shine.

This is why we do a market every Sunday and not once a year: so it's always here when you need it, even on a day like today. Come say kia ora, get out of the weather for a bit, and go home with your Sunday sorted.
