A little clarification from Onerahi Market ❤️

We’ve seen the post circulating about the recent Thrifted Market and feel it is important to correct some of the accusations being made about our market and our stallholders.

Our organiser did raise concerns with the Onerahi Community Association because the proposed market included stalls selling many of the same types of goods as our existing local stallholders. That was about advocating for the small local businesses who have supported Onerahi Market — not about preventing another market from operating.

As far as we were aware our stallholders were friendly, respectful and welcoming throughout the day.

If there were inappropriate or aggressive interactions, Jenny and I were not aware of these concerns at the time and we cannot comment on or confirm what may have occurred. They do not represent the behaviour we expect from our market community, nor should the actions of a few be taken as a reflection of the many stallholders who contribute positively to our market most Saturday's.

What we find particularly concerning is the suggestion that people connected with Onerahi Market may have deliberately damaged someone's car. That is a very serious accusation. There is absolutely no evidence connecting the damage to our organiser, our stallholders or our market.

The carpark was extremely full on the day, and our stallholders would not have known which vehicle belonged to the Thrifted organiser. To publicly raise an allegation of deliberate damage in connection with our market, without evidence, unfairly casts suspicion on innocent local people who have been part of this community market for years.

We are happy to stand by the facts, and we won't engage in personal attacks or speculation. We simply ask that our market, our organiser and our stallholders are treated with the same fairness and respect we extend to others.

We wish Thrifted well wherever their market goes next. ❤️

Onerahi Market will continue doing what we do best, supporting local stallholders, keeping our market affordable and creating a welcoming community space for everyone.

I'd like to give a warm welcome to Margie Davis, who has kindly accepted an offer to help out with posting photos, videos and Facebook Lives from the market when she's there. 🎉

As many of you know, I'm a volunteer helping support Jenny, who does an amazing job organising the Onerahi Market. While I love promoting the market and our awesome stallholders, I can't always be there every Saturday as I have other work and family commitments.

Having another stallholder willing to lend a hand means we can keep everyone updated, even when I can't make it. It's a great example of our market community supporting each other.

Thanks so much, Margie! Your help is truly appreciated, and I'm looking forward to seeing your posts.

Ngā mihi,
