LEST WE FORGET

Today we honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave so much for our freedom.

Our family will be attending the ANZAC Memorial Service in Piopio this morning, alongside our son, Thomas, who is serving in the New Zealand Army (service starts at 10:45am on Weka Street). We warmly encourage anyone in the area to come along and pay their respects.

We usually open in the afternoon on ANZAC Day but just a reminder that due to the road closure, we are now closed for the winter.

TOMORROW IS OUR FINAL DAY! 🍓 (Friday 24th April)

Due to the news today that road closures between Piopio and Mōkau (SH3 through to Taranaki) will remain until at least the 2nd May, we’ve made the call to close earlier than planned - so tomorrow will be your last chance to visit us for the season.

We’ll be open 10am – 4pm, so there’s still time to come out, enjoy some fresh berries and real fruit ice cream, and stock up before winter!

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful customers and our dedicated team - we truly appreciate your support. It’s what makes each season so special.

🍓 WE ARE OPEN! 🍓

Despite the road closure between Piopio and Mōkau (SH3 through to New Plymouth) due to slips, Piopio Berry Orchard is OPEN!

📅 Open hours:
• Today 22nd April: we will be closing at 3pm
• Thursday 23rd April: 10am – 3pm
• Friday 24th April: 10am – 3pm

If you’re travelling via the Forgotten Highway (SH43) toward Taranaki, we’re just a quick 2 minute drive from the Eight Mile Junction turn off to Taumarunui - perfect for a berry stop and caffeine fix along the way 🍓☕

Our Easter Bunny has been spotted hopping through the strawberry rows - definitely the only rabbit allowed in our patch! 😄

🍓Introducing the sisters behind Piopio Berry Orchard🍓

Running Piopio Berry Orchard takes a whole team, and while we’re lucky to have so many wonderful staff, today we want to introduce two very special family members - sisters Jessie and Maggie.

Some of our long-time customers might even remember us as kids, helping out alongside Mum and Dad during busy berry seasons! Now, the next generation is starting to make their mark.

Jessie, who grew up among the berry rows, now manages the shop. She leads the team, welcomes every customer with a smile, and ensures the orchard feels as warm and inviting as it always has. Her four boys are already learning the ropes too - helping in the shop, running little errands, and soaking up the same family spirit that shaped Jessie.

Her younger sister Maggie keeps the orchard running smoothly behind the scenes, managing the finances and administration from overseas. Her daughter Tilly is already a little part of the team too - often taste-testing the berries to make sure everything is just perfect!

For us, Piopio Berry Orchard isn’t just a business - it’s family, community, and generations of memories growing together. We’re proud to see the next generation carrying it forward, keeping the orchard’s heart strong for years to come.

Our Apples Have Arrived!

We’re so excited to share that apples are now for sale for the very first time at Piopio Berry Orchard!

For Mike and Angela, growing apples is a return to a lifelong love. Their very first orchard near Hamilton in the 1980s produced 100 tonne each season, half for export and half for local markets and their own shopfront. It’s always been their dream to plant apples again, and now that dream is growing strong.

They’ve planted 500 trees - Royal Gala, Braeburn, and a few Granny Smith - and this season the very first fruit has arrived.
