This lovely long weekend we will not be having a Village Market here in Takaka as it falls on ANZAC day. I have been approached by a few people asking and surprised that we are unable to and so to make no mistake here is the rules on trade on ANZAC day
On Anzac Day (April 25th) in New Zealand, most shops, supermarkets, and malls must remain closed until 1:00 PM. Exemptions apply to dairies, service stations, pharmacies, cafes, restaurants, and takeaway bars, which may open, though some may impose surcharges. Normal trading resumes at 1:00 PM.
What is Open/Allowed Before 1pm:
Essential Shops: Small dairies, superettes, service stations, and pharmacies.
Hospitality: Cafes, restaurants, and bars can open, often serving food for immediate consumption.
Transport & Tourism: Public transport terminals and duty-free stores.
Tourism Spots: Specific areas with exemptions (e.g., Paihia, Queenstown, Taupo, Picton) may have shops open earlier.
What is Closed Before 1pm:
Supermarkets & Malls: Major retailers (e.g., Countdown, New World, PAK'nSAVE) remain closed until 1pm.
Retail Shops: Clothing, hardware, and furniture stores.
Garden Centres: Restricted from opening in the morning.

Key Information:
Mondayisation: Does not affect shop trading restrictions, which apply only to April 25th.
Surcharges: Hospitality venues may apply a 10–15% surcharge to cover increased holiday wages.
Fines: Shops operating illegally before 1pm can face fines of up to $1000
But next week is the 02 May and we will have the last of the summer markets on that Saturday which is my birthday so i hope you can come and celebrate with me on the 02 May
remember on the 3 May we have the recilence Hui all day at the GB Rec centre and its free so another reminder to stall holders that you might want to run a stall on that sunday too
