Something exciting arrived this week, Custom name tags! These tags are lazer printed with the goats registered name on the front and the sire, dam and pedigree status on the back. We have also colour coded them to the year group. How awesome do they look! Thank you Leader Products. All our goats on the farm are named not numbered and are also all registered with the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Inc

Winter Update

It’s that time of the year we invest in new ways to keep the goats dry, well fed and happy. This year we have built a covered silage feedout area on slatted decking to keep feet dry and well and reduce waste. This new addition is accessible to the goats from two separate entrances with compacted brown rock to keep them out of the muck and gives the tractor easy access to clean out and reload the bales. See them choose to walk on the brown rock pathway edged with felled trees.
We are winding down the season with only 15 does left in milk. The majority of the herd has been mated and we start kidding in 75 days.
The milking team has been moved to the new shed all clean and tidy with fresh bedding all ready for the coming winter.

Bell removing ceremony…..Today we say good bye to Belle Chevre Charlotte. At ten years old, Charlotte is one of the first to be born here and carry the Belle Chevre stud name, wearing a very special 🔔 bell as well. Once herd queen, she stood up to a dog to protect the herd. She hasn’t really been the same since although she has continued to give us lovely kids, but not so much milk. Charlotte still has a job to do. While she would have been welcome to live out her days unmated here, she will answer the call to go to another home where there is a lonely older lady like herself that needs a friend. A purposeful life for Charlotte right to the end.
