Plantsville Health

Plantsville Health Conservation, Livelihood, Health, Climate Change.

Plantsville Health is a social enterprise dedicated to the conservation and commercialization of endangered Philippine cinnamon, also known as kaningag. By partnering with local farmers, the organization addresses the biodiversity crisis and provides sustainable livelihoods that discourage the destructive practice of making charcoal. Our innovative approach involves converting raw cinnamon into high-value health products, such as essential oils, sleep aids, and natural sweeteners, all backed by scientific research. These efforts are supported by FDA-registered facilities and a value chain designed for national scalability across dozens of provinces. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to solve environmental and economic challenges by positioning native cinnamon as a premium solution for the global wellness market.

๐ŸŒฟ From Local Forests to the Global Market! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโœจ

Instead of importing cinnamon, Plantsville Health is bringing back our native Philippine cinnamon (Kaningag) while uplifting local farming communities.

By partnering with the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) and local farmers to propagate seedlings and sustainably harvest cinnamon leaves, this initiative creates sustainable income while protecting our biodiversity.

Thanks to the support of FSSI, Plantsville Health is taking the Philippine cinnamon kaningag locally and globally! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“ฆ

Heroism is standing up for those without a voice, such as the trees and smallholder farmers.

We are sharing the post of Ms Cathy M. Tagle, a fellow champion for the Philippine cinnamon, on National Heroes Day.

I visited the Philippine cinnamon farm in Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), the little Baguio
of Bacolod on National Heroes Day. Aboard a non- aircon bus, November Grandea Canieso-Yeo and I trooped to 75 year old Nanay Ninfa's farm, who now has 433 trees of the Philippine Cinnamon, also known as Kaningag and she has been planting since 2017. Aside from the Kaningag, Nanay Ninfa also grows cacao, coffee, guava, jackfruit and kiatkiat on her 10 hectare property.

There are 21 species of the Kaningag in the country and 7 are found in Negros . This cinnamon tree is endangered and November is a super champion in advocating for the preservation and propagation of these species. I learned that 200kg of fresh leaves produces just 400ml of the cinnamon essential oil. No wonder it is so expensive but wonderfully potent!

It was a nice trip going up, weather was cool though I did not really see the beauty of Mt. Kanlaon due to the clouds. I was told that it was active a week ago so that maybe the reason.

I cant wait to see the production facility of the Kaningag leaves and bark!

I got my samples too, of the cinnamon powder and essential oil plus the finishing salt. I can't wait to try it out with my baked goodies!
