This iconic Ilocano delicacy traces its roots to Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, where Rosalina Baldugo Abrojena, fondly known as Nana Rosa, started making chichacorn from a humble home kitchen many decades ago. With very little capital but a lot of determination, she began preparing corn the traditional wayโcarefully boiling the kernels, sun-drying them under the Ilocos sun, and frying them to achieve the signature golden crunch that Ilocanos have loved for generations.
Through patience, dedication, and consistency in quality, Nana Rosaโs chichacorn slowly gained popularity among locals and travelers visiting Ilocos. What started as a small livelihood eventually became one of the most recognized pasalubong from the region. Over the years, her product earned numerous awards and recognitions for preserving a traditional Ilocano snack and contributing to local livelihood and cultural heritage.
