Celebrating a milestone and stronger collaboration ✨🤝Jean and I have never thought of servicing a restaurant as sophisticated as Linamnam, more so a Michelin starred establishment. Team Linamnam visited our farm and we discussed future plans, and new projects. We foraged and we talked about some indigenous crops.

Team Linamnam prepared amazing food and we also cooked our native favorites! We shared stories and laughter... It was a blast!

We are grateful for this partnership that pushes us to be better. Looking forward to more stars for team Linamnam and we are very excited for the what lies ahead! Thank you Chef for making the time to be with our team! 🙏🏼

Back in July of 2022, , we met this young chef. He champions native produce and wants to elevate FILIPINO food through his creations. He wants to bring back pre-colonial food but through modern techniques. He wants us to find our Filipino roots and be proud of our uniqueness through food.

He talked about his vision during our short conversation via phone and we deeply connected during his visit to the farm. We shared the same views and goals on sustainability, food growing and environmental conservation. We started planting some native produce him and on October of 2022, we delivered our first batch of produce to his humble 10-seater restaurant.

Today marks our 3rd year of collaboration. We went through experimentations, foraging, he did a lot of mind-boggling fermentations, trials with indigenous crops - all for the fun of it but also to show what nature can really provide. It was an amazing journey. We have been deeply grateful for each and every day we know Chef Don. When we heard about Michelin visiting the Philippines, we were excited for him. And he made it!

Congratulations Linamnam and Chef Don for a well deserved star! We are very excited of what's coming up next and the challenges that lie ahead!

In case you haven't been to Linamnam, we highly recommend that you visit it one day. You will be transformed and you will truly appreciate the possibilities of Filipino food!

PREVENTIVE vs FLU
---------------------------
Let's switch our perspective on flu season. Masks, isolation, flu vaccines, and disinfectants - these solutions are too old and too tired and direly needs an upgrade. They aren't enough and we know it. Let's, instead, look to more sustainable and future-proof holistic ways - the preventive ones.

One easy way is be more mindful of our food and focus on optimizing our immune system and total health! Studies show that we need at least 30 plant varieties per week for a diverse and healthy gut microbiome! This will make flu season so much easier and worry-free as we become more resilient. Preventive starts from within all of us!

Here at our farm, real food is easy of course, but this doesn't stop us to be and do better everyday. Today, we foraged and prepared a Sixteen (16) wholefoods plant meal... our ORGANIC GARDEN BIBIMBAP.

Infused with Doenjang (korean fermented soy bean paste), organic farm fresh eggs, and sesame oil! Kids love it, seniors crave for it... and everybody just marvels at the diverse colors and textures! Easy to make, crazy yummy and has multitude of micro nutrients, fiber and anti-inflammatory ingredients!

- Wombok
- Squash
- Corrainder
- Native Perilla (we still dont have the name for this)
- Onion Leeks
- Pansit-Pansitan
- Eggplant
- Baby Arugula
- Green Ice Lettuce
- Sayote
- Wild Cherry Tomatoes
- Red Onions
- Garlic
- Micro Cucumbers
- Japanese Cucumber
- Organic Black rice

NEW CROP ALERT!

SERYALES
--------
Seryales, also known as the Governor's Plum or Indian Cherry (Flacourtia indica), is a native Philippine fruit, though not exclusively from Batangas, that is known for its plum-like appearance when ripe, a texture similar to grapes, and a sweet-sour taste with a mild, "mapakla" (astringent) aftertaste. To enhance its sweetness, locals often roll the ripe fruit between their palms before eating it. The tree from which it grows is characterized by large, sharp thorns on its trunk and branches

This amazing fruit offers several health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-boosting properties due to its high vitamin C and carotenoid content. It may also help with digestion, blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular health, and even have some anticancer and antibacterial effects

Let me know if you like to try this and I will add to your weekly basket!

We just started accepting volunteers early this year and we were so surprised with the amount of applications from different countries and walks of life. Surprisingly, there were some locals too. Interestingly, most were women, mid 20s who resigned from their jobs and traveling alone in Asia looking for bigger purpose and to make the world a better place. Talking to them and sharing different perspectives on environmental conservation gives me a bit more hope for our next generation. Thank you to all of you who shared energy ane who resonated with us!

ARATILES
========

Also called "mansanitas" in Ilokano, is a fast growing native tree in the Philippines and bears a familiar red cherry-like fruit. The fruit has a sweet tart-like flavor and its pulp explodes with fig-like sweetness. Its leaves has a saluyot-like shape and texture. The fruit is firm and skin is thick enough, giving it a week's shelf life. This tree grows very fast and very big and bears an unimaginable amount of produce, probably feeding 10 families per tree.

Aratiles used to be one of those trees that grows in everyone's backyard, but unfortunately, it is quickly becoming a forgotten plant that most of our children (even adults) can't even identify. It is actually considered endangered in some regions. I remember Jean telling me stories about how they climbed and played with Aratiles growing up and I actually envy her because I wasn't expose to such wonderful experience growing up in the city.

Aratiles fruit offers a wide range of health benefits. It has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-diabetic components. It also has antioxidant properties and was largely used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments**. GOOD NEWS also to those who have high URIC ACID - Artiles has a powerful antioxidant called Anthrosyanin, which helps protect against excessive uric acid in the body!

For me, even with all of the medical / scientific discoveries of this amazing fruit, I am just grateful to nature for providing such an abundant delicious fruit that anyone can grow in their backyard. We spend Php1000+ on imported berries when we have our own super berry that is healing, resilient, abundant and literally costs nothing. Let's educate our kids and help bring back Aratiles into our homes and kitchen.

Message us if you want Aratiles in your weekly baskets!

MACOPA
======
Or also known as Java Apple (also Rose Apple, because it does look like one right?) in other Asian countries, is a sweet and sour fruit that is very high in Vit C, A, Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium and Iron - to name a few. It is a 6-8mtr tree that gives crazy lots of fruits during summer until June. It also a good source of protein... right? A juicy fruit that can be used as dessert ingredient but with protein!!!

Macopa recently gained a lot of interest in the medical (and scientific world) particularly in diabetes regulation. It also improves heart health because of its mineral contents, Immunity because of vitamin contents, digestion because of its fiber amount. Also a good source of antioxidants for your liver and kidney wellness.

Well we think it is just a beautiful, juicy, crunchy and abundant gift of nature that should be celebrated!!!

But how to use them in your kitchen? Well we did some digging and thought of sharing out we use it at home:

Eat as snacks or dessert - raw as fruit.
Make Macopa Salad!!!
Make Macopa Juice for your kids (see recipe below)
