⁉️PASTIL ba? KAGIKIT ba?⁉️
You might have seen shredded chicken or beef and instantly thought, "Ah, PASTIL!" Not so fast, guys. Let’s take a flavorful detour into Mindanao cuisine. 🌋
🧐 What “KAGIKIT” Really Means:
In Maguindanaon culture, “KAGIKIT” refers to the topping itself. The shredded and sautéed meat, seasoned with garlic, onion, and spices, is carefully simmered to lock in the flavor, making it a savory star on its own. 🌟
🍚 What About Pastil?
“PASTIL”, "PATER", "PATIL", the name varies based on the region within Mindanao, pertains to the COMPLETE RICE MEAL. The meal is served with steamed white rice topped with KAGIKIT, traditionally wrapped in banana leaves.
🤔Why It Matters:
Many of us confuse the two, and we get it! The Kagikit gives Pastil its soul, but calling Kagikit “Pastil” is like calling spaghetti just “meat sauce.” Close, but not quite!
**PPS
Our Chicken Kagikit is our version, our take, of our favorite Mindanaoan food, and we will never claim that it is the authentic version. But when you scoop into a jar of our Chicken Kagikit, you’re tasting the essence of Mindanao, minus the rice. 😊
