Tatlo.

First: Siomai stall sa may Pier 3, Cebu.

Teenager pa lang ako nun, college student. First time ko talagang mag-negosyo.

Ang exciting non. Bagong simula, bagong dream. Puno ako ng energy, puno ng hope.

Tapos dumating ang reality.

Nakakapod pala.

Long story short—Nagsara.

Second: Cakes, muffins, sliced pastries.

Sinubukan naming to make it work. Hindi talaga.

Nagsara ulit.

Third: Baking supplies store.

At dito nagsimulang maging interesting ang kwento.

Pandemic. Everybody was stuck at home and everybody suddenly wanted to bake.

Dun nag-boom ang business namin.

Nung una, takot ang asawa ko. Reasonable naman. May pandemic, may lockdowns, delikado lumabas. Pero nakita namin ang opportunity. Gusto namin i-take advantage bago pa mawala.

Kaya ginawa namin.

Nagtatrabaho kaming dalawa, magkaibang lugar, iisang pangarap.

Yung feeling na finally, may gumagana na. Finally, your bet paid off. Finally.

Tapos dahan-dahan, nawala.

Nag-ease ang restrictions. Bumalik ang tao sa opisina. Dumami ang competition. Naging mahal ang rent. At yung demand na nag-carry sa amin? Nawala na rin.

Nung nagsara kami, it was a bittersweet moment.

I cherished all the memories. Pero alam ko rin na kailangan ko nang tumigil sa pag-romanticize and just be practical about it.

So, nagsara.

Tatlong negosyo. Halos dalawang dekada.

I'm coming back.

Kayo? Nag-try na rin ba kayong mag-negosyo? O nag-iisip pa lang? Anong nangyari o anong pinaghahandaan niyo? 👇

Full orders, empty wallet? Lugi ka kasi mali costing mo. 💸🥲

So, I had this friend selling kananin who was always complaining: “Girl, i dont understand... Lugi ako kahit puno orders.”

When I asked her costing method?

“Kinokopya ko lng yung price sa palengke para affordable.”

When I heard this, ang laking dismaya ang naramdaman ko. Kasi alam ko yung products nya and she added some premium ingredients to make her products stand out.

So we sat down, computed everything: flour, sugar, butter, electricity, packaging, delivery, even her own time.

And guess what?

Her prices were way too low because she didn't realize that she was adding premium ingredients + beautiful packaging + free delivery kung malapit lng.

But they were priced the same as those ordinary ones from the public market! 😵

At this point, I suggested raising her prices and so, she did, adding ₱10–₱15 per product.

At first, she was scared.

What if customers would complain?
What if nobody would buy anymore?

But you know what happened?

👉 Walang nagreklamo.
👉 Customers even said: “Worth it naman kasi quality.”
👉 She finally saw real profit, not just pagod.

Here's what you can also learn from her mistakes:

👉 Proper Costing = Real Profit

If you sell cookies for ₱150 a dozen but your real cost (ingredients + labor + overhead) is ₱120, you’re earning ₱30 lang… before packaging and delivery. After real computation, that same cookie box should be ₱199–₱220.

👉 Value > Price

Customers buying cakes for birthdays or weddings aren’t just buying flour and sugar. They’re buying trust that it will taste great, look great, and arrive on time. That’s what they’re paying for.

👉 Professional Pricing Tools

Use pricing labels/tag guns for consistency. No more “paiba-iba” handwritten tags. A clean, uniform price tag shows professionalism and builds trust.

Kung mali presyo mo, parang love life—akala mo okay, pero ikaw pala lugi. Gumamit ka na ng pricing labels. 😂💔

Ever tried slicing 50 loaves with a manual knife? Kamay ko halos sumuko. 🥲

For small orders, a serrated bread knife works. But if you’re serious about scaling… time to go pro.

💡Hack: Use a bench-top bread slicer machine.

✅ Cuts uniform slices.
✅ Saves hours in bulk orders.
✅ Cleaner finish = professional look.

🥰 Food biz is not just recipes—it’s also patience and pakikisama.

Honestly? Minsan mas mahirap pa kausapin customer kaysa gumawa ng fondant roses. 🥲

But here’s the truth: this is where loyalty is built.

❌ Not just in your cakes, but in how you handle people.

✅ A kind reply, a little pasensya, and a touch of professionalism can turn a one-time order into a suki.

💡 Look pro, act pro, be pro.

Even advanced bakers need tools that show they run a serious business.

Examples:

✅ POS System/Tablets – para smooth ang ordering, no more sulat-sulat sa papel.
✅ Thermal Printers – print neat receipts and order slips, parang café ang vibe.
✅ Display Fridge with Glass Doors – para may wow factor when customers pick up.

Your frosting not surviving the PH heat?

Blast chill it!

👉 10–15 minutes in the freezer = frosting set, no smudges, no slides.

✨ Bonus: customers think you’re a miracle worker kasi kahit summer, hindi nagmelt ang cake.

And if you're worried na mangamoy lansa ng isda or karne ang cake mo sa freezer, just use this freezer deodorizer 👉https://s.shopee.ph/qa5lbosso
