Turmeric has a peppery, warm and bitter flavor and a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger. Turmeric comes from the roots of the Curcuma Longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. Turmeric was traditionally called "Indian saffron" because of its d

eep yellow-orange color. Here in the Philippines it is called "Luyang dilaw." It has been used throughout history as a condiment, healing remedy and textile dye. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.
